Black List of Dishonest Sellers

maybe can bring ur own 9V battery to test if pedals or other equipment is actually working? thats what i do.

my policy: item to be returned by the next day if it is not working. no reserve. contact me when you are ready to deal

my responsibility to ensure that the item changes hands in working order. buyer's responsibility to check the item.

you deal with me, you play by my rules. there are so many potential buyers but only one of my item.

i've been selling gear since i joined soft and haven't had any complaints or problems.

i am more concerned by buyers who fly aeroplane. and normally only buyers do that. seller usually want my business.

Yeah Shinobi, I pretty much agree with your points.

I buy, sell and trade here frequently. Most, I'd say 99% of softies are good honest people and personally I've never had a bad experience thus far.

My greatest peeve is people who inquire the hell out of something that I'm selling but am not willing to pay anywhere close to my asking price in the first place. After 20 or so smses and countless emails, they ask for a huge discount that naturally I'd not be able to agree on since I've priced it very reasonably in the first place. Or worst, they don't even tell you how much they are willing to pay in the first place.

If you can't afford it please don't waste the seller's time. This applies especially to secondary students who are still asking for handouts from parents since I've never had such an experience with NSFs, Uni students or working adults.

i've had a guy who inquired so much abt my pedal and i happened to be in a good mood, so i explained to him stuff. and i realised i sent 30msgs. what was i thinking. worst of all when i asked him when would u like to deal, he told me he doesnt have enough money so he asked me to reserve it for him for 2 months.

i didnt reply him. he doesnt have a soft acct. damn.

James you say that this will not be of any use. If it isn't, why doe Ebay use it still? I think an ebay styled reputation system is a great idea.

Users create new accounts, their credibility will be ZERO. This way the buyer or seller, whichever, is aware of this person's credibilty and even so chooses to sell to/buy from this person.

This way, there will be a lot less bitching on the forums about bad buyers and sellers because whoever got played out would have already been warned.

I hope this doesn't fall on deaf ears, I am 100% sure a buy/sell reputation system would be excellent.

i'm for banning threads where ppl involved in deals take out their grievances publicly. ebay style rep points is quite advanced, but perhaps the comment box on the profile page could be used for this purpose. anyone who has dealt with the user is allowed 1 comment, and then the user will be allowed 1 response. finish.

problem is, it is impossible to track deals on soft, when the deals are done in person. after all, soft buy/sell is just a classifieds, no more, no less.

Hi tim, just checking if you are into computer programming and stuff? Would definitely need expert help on this.

BTW, we do have a Reputation system in the forum. You have 46 points. By default, new user start with 10 points.

Hi James,

I think what Tim is suggesting is having a reputation or rating system that is specific for the B&S. No offense meant but I feel that the current reputation system can be easily abused and lead to nothing but a popularity contest.

Another option is to delist the B&S sub-forums and make it accessible only for members only, preferably those with 15 or 20 post count. Or at least make it compulsory for softies to have some post counts before they can post on B&S. In my opinion this will at least weed out a portion of the fraudulent sellers and spammers since they have to go to extra trouble before being able to post.

Well it is reportable i suppose. But you must have prove that he lied about the condition. But as dealers the most important thing is principle as well as buyers infact. When you sell something always state damages no matter how small or big , point out. It may not be a big deal to you but it is a big deal for the person losing the money. And as a buyer it is your responsiblity to ask it's your money your spending after all. If you are unable to detect the damages on inspection ASK for the seller to show them.
If you fail to do so dont blame them seller for being dishonest , you might have done that damage on the way back in the train etc. So please ASK dont be afraid.
If the seller has lied about the condition and you were unable to inspect due to delivery or bad venue. Take pictures of the product , print the sellers claimed condition from whatever page you saw the post on, note down time of payment and time of receiving item and bring it to the police with sufficient evidence you can get your money back.

Just a reminder for dealers the term MINT means unused , people take this kind of terms seriously. Unless the item is really in a perfect condition scratch free etc. Do not claim your item is mint like i said before its your responsibility to state whatever damage small or big.

Hmm, James, it's highly unlikely that you can report this to the police, cause the police would have more pressing matters to deal with. Yet again, I'm no law student so I'm not sure whether this can be said as a criminal offence.

Rather, I suggest that we officially put up a page that would list the people who have been "blacklisted" because of such deals, and a short brief story from the victim for what happened. Those who have been blacklisted would be people we can avoid in order to ensure that no one else is swindled.

Also, as a counterpoint, the people who have been blacklisted can be notified. This allows both buyer and seller to clear up any misunderstandings between them, and hopeuflly allows the sellers name to be cleared.

Also, no comments must be allowed on that page. To save anything from going haywire

Is it me or does anyone feel that the word 'mint' is overused?

I mean some people post ads that say CONDITION: MINT. ( Except. for one small ding.... )

I mean would this still be considered mint? why not just state good condition? wont that be a hint to potential buyers that the item is not as prestine condition as it should be?

We must thank James for providing us with this forum free-of-charge. Would upgrades cost him more time and money?

Sponsors? Volunteers?

i was equally perturbed by the appallingly liberal use (or misuse) of the word "mint" in the buy-sell section. either they
1)misuse the word intentionally
2)do not comprehend the meaning of "mint"
3)describe without thoughts or write on impulse
4)just follow others' description as though there is a standard format to describe the condition of the gears.

but anyway, i got used to it pretty soon after. now i take such descriptions with a pinch of salt unless i see it with my own eyes.

you forgot option number 5:

5) The goods are actually in mint condition.

My gear is always kept in mint condition, and yes, when I sell them, I list them as such. I believe there are many people out there who might be equally as careful with their gear as me and the fact that you see the word 'mint' being used might be because they are actually kept in a condition that is like new.

But yes - I know what you mean - sometimes people say 'mint with a ding' which is obviously nonsense. :)
