Try looking here and doing a search: http://groups.google.com/group/rec.music.makers.guitar.jazz/topics

Don't know if you're using an archtop but for a start, use an amp with a good amount of headroom, turn down the treble, boost the mids and bass and you'll approximate a good 'muffled' jazz tone.

If you're using an archtop, floating pickups have less of an 'electric' sound. Jim Hall's own setup is a pickup on the body itself, like a 175. Check out his Sadowsky signature model for some ideas.

We sometimes forget that the flatwound 'muffled' jazz sounds work for Jim hall, benson etc because of their supreme accuracy and articulation. Many jazz players use round wound strings and get that 'tone' as well, so the strings would be a factor to consider as well.

I forgot about your question :)

You can find the pickups at www.archtop.com

As for benedetto pickups, they are now made by seymour duncan and maybe you can source them from our local distributor.

Thanks for your reply...

the guitar whose pickup i m changing is a semi-hollow..

i did try to playing with the settings to get the tone, turning down the treble and bass...rolling the tone off...i did get a decent jazz tone but not the tone that i want..

maybe it could be in the strings...should get a thicker gauge flatwounds...

As for pickups, can i know which shop sells seymour duncan pickups?
