These are the old guidelines...

The flag shall not be used in any trademark, nor for any commercial or advertising purposes. It shall not be used in any furnishings, decoration, covering, attire nor at any private funeral activity. No graphics or word should be superimposed on the flag. For more details, please refer to Annex A.

http://www.mica.gov.sg/pressroom/press_040103.html
From this year:

Restrictions governing the use of decals, stickers, posters, etc and its use in commercial products, clothing, videos, marketing tools have also been eased. Indeed, a substantial proportion of requests received by MICA from companies, associations and a range of organisations have been readily accommodated with the requirement that the dignity and respect of the Flag be observed at all times.

Scope of Criminal Offences

6 A compounding provision has been introduced to provide assurance that not every offence connected with the use of the Flag will be criminalised and prosecuted. For less serious offences and where there are mitigating factors, a compound fine may be imposed in lieu of Court proceedings.

Basically, if you have a design that incorporates it, you just need to get approval.

There's also the Lion Head that can be used.

Singapore Lion Head
6 MITA has correspondingly revised the guidelines for the use of the Singapore lion head with immediate effect. From now on, an individual, organisation or company can use the lion head symbol for purposes of identifying with the nation. They can also use a design or trademark or logo incorporating the lion head, provided that the use of the design or trademark or logo is of good taste, and does not compromise on the integrity of the meaning and design of the Singapore lion head. Anyone using the Singapore lion head in their trademark or logo will not have exclusive rights to the lion head as that belongs to the Government of Singapore.
7 The revised guidelines for the use of the Singapore lion head are also released today (Annex C), together with the new guidelines for the use of the national flag and anthem.

insane, with those guidelines, we can get angsty about gov anymore, like that how??

*damned, must find new things to get depressed about"

weckl-x, does this means if i complete up my singapore flag guitar and bring it to a police station to get approval and i can start gigging with it? :P

it all depends. if there is a complaint made, the SOP would be that a patrol car would be dispatched and enquiries made.

Upon which they would take note of your particulars and then, an investigation officer would ask you to come down the police station nearest to your home or nearest to the division concerned (ie if you are gigging in orchard rd area, you will probably be asked to go to Tanglin Police station)

you may need to bring that guitar and after concluding your statement, they would informed that they would get back to you in due course.

probably might take 2 weeks or so but the police would seek advise on this matter with attorney-general chambers (AGC) pertaining to this matter

once a decision is arrived, you would be advised accordingly.

the reason that a sg flag is sensitive issue is due to the amount of respect and decorum given to the state flag.

the rule of the law applies to all and the authorities concerned doesn't want people with ill intention to disrespect the flag.

So isnt there a way we can get it approved b4 they catch me and go thru all the troublesome police station process? Is it possible to apply for a permit or something?

I realized soft got quite afew well verse in law huh~ weetweet~! haha!

bro gr3y

so far, not that i know of whereby an individual applying for approval to get a state flag on his own personal thingy(ie car/shop/guitar,etc)

the key word here is a public complaint b4 such troublesome police station process is carried out.

if the main media is made known about this matter, normally the SOP as i indicated above applies but sometimes it may occur like this

Police Officer : Hi sir, we have a receive a complaint that you were playing a guitar which had a state flag

Me : Yes officer,i do. Is it against the law?

Police : In a way, yes but however since not many ppl knew about this,we might advise you not to play it in PUBLIC

Me : I'm sorry, I'm sorry

and then he/she asked for your particulars and then they would walkie-talkie to their control room. If you do not have any outstanding summons/fines, you are free to go.

the general rule here is say i don't know, i'm sorry, look sympathetic to them.As long as we do not have any political agenda, we are safe...

well.. then we should have a P*P flag guitar!

Police: Hi sir, we've receive complains that you are playing live with a P*P flag guitar.
Me:erm.. yes?
Police:good, now we're here to reward you with a Special Loyalty Bonus. Simply use your atm to retrieve this monetary award.
Me:OMG! ok i'll paint more of these guitars! haha

hahahaha..maybe you'll get invited to be a cadre, then get elected
after that be a high ranking official
and you'll be earning millions man!!

then you can buy whatever guitar you desire

psst...when you are reach that stage, can buy for me 1 bootek guitar also as a present??
thank you ah beforehand...

hahahahaha

I just received, at my door, the Ben Sherman Blue Union Jack Gibson Thunderbird:
http://www.bensherman.com/client/guitarauction/tbird-bass-blue-unionjack.aspx

Well, in total including shipping it cost me about 2.8 k. Why is it so cheap for a limited edition guitar?

it came in, and then...

1) Unorthodox packaging. It was put in a Gibson electric guitar soft case, packed in bubble wrap, and then had another generic electric guitar case inserted from the top down. It had bubble wrap all over, and was put in this old, beat-up box that says "Gibson - The Gibson Family of Brands". And may I say that the box was really beat-up.

2) Many, many, many flaws with this guitar. Dings, scratches, as well as glue spilling out from some of the upper frets, and from the neck joint. One of the target knobs had the red bullseye missing, and there was a long scratch along the back of the body. Also, they didn't bother wiping the guitar clean before they sent it to me: It was dusty.

3) There was one painful crack at the bottom of the guitar, like it had been dropped very hardly. I suspect this could have been during the packaging as I do not doubt DHL's excellent service during shipping.

4) No official certificates, no form of authentification, just one Phillipe Dubrielle logo on the back of the headstock.

Just some bitchin' from someone who thinks that the price MIGHT HAVE BEEN justified.

Mattyap, that's real bad! I suggest you take pictures of these stuff and start making a big huha! Either the name of Gibson will fall further or they will pay to shut your mouth!
