Beginners unite!

hmmm...splitting the group in two sounds good. maybe there can be a few contributors who can impart certain knowledge on certain techniques? or rhythmic patterns and styles? having a pre-made list of the contributors (and the things they plan to share) might be more organised. and we might learn more.

and the earlier idea of having everyone jam the same song by ah mo would be hella nice as well. :]

hmm i dont think everyone has an accoustic guitar (not me at least =x) but lucky for me I got a portable amp. I like the idea of splitting up into 2 groups too, since i am sure there will be absolute beginner like me who needs lotsa help

I can play quite a few songs so which one do i go the basic grp or the avanced grp? In advanced what are the techniques will you be teaching?

If you feel you need better foundation on your basic techniques like your strumming and your picking, then do join the "newbie" group. But if you feel that you have a good techniques and foundation you can join the advanced where we, not just I, will be learning songs together and maybe dwelling in a little flowery stuff like adding bass lines to your playing or using a simple blues scale to spice it up. This will be just a rough idea la since it happened once.

Cheers ;)

So any Tampinesians/East peeps wanna meet up b4 going to the actual site?
Thinking of meeting up and go together. Newbie here.

Private message me if you are keen to meeting up first. :)

Hi guys,

i just started picking up electric guitar though...would you mind if i join in perhaps the "newbie" group? Staying in the east so i'm alright with meeting up and learn together.

I think we should all like gather and plan when and where is the most suitable place and time for us.I'm not so good and not so bad.But im willing to learn.

i think it is possible for all (newbies and more experienced guitarists) to play the same song together... the better ones can play the more advanced/difficult plucking or rhythm patterns, whilst the newbies can play the simple rhythm patterns/strumming... just have to coordinate (can fenderrules lead us in this?)

i suggest songs like killing me softly or zephyr's song (can you guys come up with more song suggestions?)

however i can't make it on 6th may so sorry!

Thanks for the feedback so far guys.

To be honest planning and coordinating a gathering like this does require quite some effort on my part. I'm trying to see how to go in the correct flow since I don't want the newbies to be left out while we are learning the advanced stuff.

ah mo, thanks for helping me bring out a good point. It will be good if I can get all of you to learn the same song altogether. In a way, the two groups can learn the same song but at their own pace. I think this may be what you mean.

Oh ya guys, I just remembered that a friend of mine is getting married on the 6th so the gathering will be pushed to the 13th of June instead. And for those who are wondering where we usually have this thing, the last time we had it was at the big underground hall at CityLink before it leads up to The Esplanade.

I decided on doing up a blog about our weekend gatherings. We will be having any sort of discussion, sharing pics and songs, posting tabs etc over there once it's done.

Cheers ;)

Hey guys, I've been playing the guitar for close to a year now. I think my progress is stagnating a bit. Just wondering if it will just be like a jamming session or something?

Hope they help teach the basic fundamentals. Looking forward to learning from others and making new friends. Hopes they can update this thread regularly. Cos i gotta stay in camp on weekdays :(

hi fenderrules,

i'm very new to this forum. came across yr posting. I'm really very keen with the gathering u r organising on 13 Jun 09. Been learning classical guitar for the past half year. Hv some basic knowledge on chords and acoustic guitar. Could I join u all? I'm 29 this yr. is there an age limit to join ? Thanks.

IcebladeX-04: Well, you could say that since we'll all be playing and learning songs at the same time in these two groups. It's aimed for beginner guitarists or guitarists who wanna get more out of their guitar playing. It's an interactive and fun session so I can guarantee that you'll be learning something by the end of the day....not totally, but yeah. Even I learnt something as well. I got owned on the fingerpicking technique by shinigamionguitar lol.

MonkeyVibrations: Kinda sad to hear that dude. Unfortunately I am only able to make these gatherings happen on weekends and very rarely on weekdays since I've got work. Hmmm but I guess we can make an exception sometime later since it's most of the softie's june holidays for now right?

And don't worry, for the fundamentals thingy, I know how you feel and my helpers will be guiding you slowly in the newbier group. I will be there as well since I will oversee the whole gathering and will be switching from one group to the other learning and playing stuff. I will also try to help you grasp what ya need to know.

geankiew: Hey there! Thanks for your interest in joining us. I'm not looking for any age or skill level in particular. I believe you are never too old to start playing. The oldest who joined us was like in her late 30's I think. So yeah, chill out and have fun with us.

Cheers ;)
