bang for buck pedals

iwantdigimon, do you... have an amp to begin with? If you have one, what is it?

Those portable amps are what they are - portable amps. Danelectrico mentioned the Roland MicroCube which is an excellent "portable" amp, heck, its so good it should be a practice amp ,not a portable amp.

i already have a practice amp; which is a marshall mgcdr15 or something of that sense.. u know, the one with the overdrive booster! :D since i go to my friend's house for cell grp every week i cant possibly keep using her dad's acoustic amp..

thing is i use an '83 ibanez roadstar II, and the single coil buzzzzzz is really REALLY noticeable on the acoustic amp for some reason, so i thought of getting decent port amp to lug every fri..

1) Why not use an acoustic guitar for cell group? It seems rather troublesome to lug a guitar and amp there just to strum chords.

2) The buzzing is probably a grounding issue, either with the guitar or the amp

3) If the amp uses a 2-pin plug (i.e. no ground), you could switch the cable to a 3 pin type if its removable, or simply recable the existing one.

4) If your guitar is the problem (try it with other amps to be sure), you could get it shielded at Beez/Standard Value/KC.

5) The vintage discontinued Ibanezes are AWESOME. I'd get a Roadstar or Talman in a heartbeat if one in good condition surfaces somewhere. It's interesting that Ibanez isn't capitalising on its unique and original designs.

haha there's alr an acoustic in use, i just try my hand at leads every now and then..

the acoustic amp is 3 pin plug, and i get that buzz from my marshall as well, so i guess its the guitar then! haha!

YEAH i love my ibanez pickups, its the only guitar i have and bought conscientiously before i chucked that J & D out; i wouldnt change a THING on it, somehow i can fantastic tele twang on it and at the same time the warmness of a Gibson! love it to bits

I still maintain the Digitech Digidelay is one of the best delay pedals you'll find for the price - or any price for that matter! If you do prefer analog delay repeats and are willing to forgo that the diversity and flexibility of a Digidelay for that, the MXR Carbon Copy is a bit more expensive but really good. As a beginner, a Digidelay will probably provide you with more fun and be a better introduction to the world of delay by sheer virtue of the sounds and options under the hood.

My experience with the Guyatone MD-2 seemed different from Ized's

Thanks for offering an alternate viewpoint of the MD-3....i think it sounds pretty similar to the old boss MIJ dd-3s....has that certain photocopy "warmth" to it. But i guess everyone has a different definition of the term warm anyways.

I find the digidelay an excellent bang for buck delay....but if subtleness is what TS is looking for i think its out of the question. I find the Digidelay's sound very cutting, its perfect for slicing through a complete band mix. It offers tap tempo and 7 delay modes though, so its quite value for money for such a cheap delay.

^ No, but i have an Artec wah, that i'd say is cheap and good, if like me, you're not much of a wah user. I remember buying mine just so that my pedal board looks nicer. Hehe. Oooops. To the bro who supplied the link to the sound clip for the demo of the Danelectro Black Coffee, thanks! It sounds great man. And yeah, i wantdigimon bro, Danelectro makes great pedals at great prices. Only drawback is the plastic casing. Maybe you can check their pedals out? If about portable amps, i have this Marshall MS-4 which can run on adaptor or 9v batt. Its a mini stack, which even has a gain control and sounds super loud at full volume. For about $70, it's a great buy. :D

thanks velvet revolver! il go give them a try once i book out! i used to have an MS 4, but it spoiled after one drop to the ground so i dont think il be trusting small marshalls anymore! haha! currently still deciding on the Orange microcrush! if the onboard overdrive is good..

A second hand digidelay shouldnt be too expensive...should be around the 120 to 130 bucks region.

If you want a versatile bang for buck delay i would recommend a dd7. Other than your usual digital delay modes it comes with a really warm and nice sounding DM2 emulation, which i have played the orginal DM2 and the dd7 pretty much nails it (without the clock noise from analog delay chips) and the digital repeats are warmer than even the DD5. It comes with external tap tempo which can nail the dotted 8s sound. It also comes with modulation delay and a whopping 40s of looping time. all in a small standard compact package.

To me its like getting a more compact version of dd20 if you have no need for the twin pedal size and changing of presets. I saw some softies selling theirs for 230 some time back, so you may wanna pounce on one if you see it on sale.

anyone tried vox wah before? aby opinions? or is dunlop ones still the best?

I find the Vox wah more suited to clean "wakka wakka" funk kind of playing. not so much for dirt unless you use it after dirt boxes cos it does not cut through well. Stock that is.

Dunlop wahs are more of the standard "jack of all trades" kind of wah....but alot of ppl do not like its nasal voicing. This is subjective and you'll have to try it yourself to know what i mean.
