Okay... This is complete whoring and using the situation to my advantage but what the heck. I actually hope it's to my advantage.
I don't think we should get too overwhelmed by this competition happening because much like the other gigs where the organisers cheat the heck out of the bands to get money for themselves. I looked at the prize money and I thought at first "This is insanely high, who are their sponsors?". Because the competition that I'm working on now relies heavily on sponsorship to bring to the contestants the best opportunities.
I mean... Honestly, who's gonna join a competition which they have to pay more money than they can possible get unless they win? I would understand if it was 20 dollars per entry, but to force sell 30 tickets is really difficult. However, we shouldn't be so fed up but instead hope that our dear bands don't fall for this trick.
Now to whore a bit. I'm organising a competition right now, Stardust 2008, and if you guys are really interested in joining a competition, I can tell you why you should go for Stardust 2008 over this.
We're all from NUS and the whole competition is strictly, and absolutely, non-profit. And for this year, we're making it mega-scale as there are people in our committee, such as I, who are avid music-lovers and musicians and want to do a competition that is worthwhile for people to take part. We've been working really hard to get sponsors.
We're musicians as well and we understand that competitions are a great place for a great experience, a great opportunity to learn and be better, and that's exactly what we're trying to do for our contestants.
So if you're looking for a competition, do check out the other thread I wrote on this same subforum and do consider joining Stardust 2008. Because it was organised by musicians for musicians. =)
