Hi Guys...

I want to change my strat pickup with Fralins Vintage Hot vs Fralins Blues Special...
I like John Mayer specially on 'Belief... Live in LA version", SRV kinda sounds....
Do you have try it before??
What if compare with Suhr V60 pups? I try Suhr V60... it's nice but if heard Fralins makes best pups for Strat.
I wont get Texas Special, coz its to loud, and trebly...

I would prefer the Vintage Hot. The blues special has a little more output than vintage hot, which loses abit of the highs. I have those in my Fender

from what i know mayer has very weak output pickups. i'm thinking of getting a set of custom shop 54's or 69's. maybe you can check em out too

ask again

okay thanks guys...
i've heard the fralins vintage hot from utube. does it sound thin compare with blues special? or maybe not that thin in the real life??
Leechs, the blues special, is it too bassy or muddy?? I'm still want abit trebly from this... just affraid it's too bassy... no is it??

I try cs 69, 'wounded by Aby Ybarra', it's nice pups, but sound bout this frm neck to bridge, slighty the same. try it on my friend's strat.

Quiet happy bout V60's Suhr, I already installed to my others strat. Just wanna get others brand to give a different nuance to others baby.

sorry guys for a lot of question... just dont wanna go wrong. heheehe
Thanks lot :)

thanks a lot leechs...
Vintage Hot... it's holy grail.... ugggghhhh...

Seems lollars also nice...but abit pricey, d u know where to get it here in singapore?

Thanks bro...

if you want to *nail* Mayer's tone, i'd suggest the lowest output strat single coils you can find.

he uses really low output single coils.. below 6k ohms each i've read..

even the vintage hot set might be a little hot. i think the real 54 set will get you closer.

of course, more of it is in the hands than the pickups. :P

You want his sound? Buy his guitar... Those "Big Dipper" pups are only available on his signature strat. I use CS69s, and it's missing something that Mayer's tone has: more highs. Not to say that it's bad. I prefer the 69 tone. But if you want that tone from him, I'd probably say that the Texas Specials might be a bit more suited...

I try cs 69, 'wounded by Aby Ybarra', it's nice pups, but sound bout this frm neck to bridge, slighty the same. try it on my friend's strat.

1. It IS the same, because all 3 pups are the same specs.
2. They don't sound similar because they really show the differences in tone given by string position.
3. If you're looking for a hotter bridge pup, then this set is NOT for you... Texas Specials might be better.

finally

thanks dude,

seems I'm verry interesting w/ Fralins. Maybe i'll get vintage hot soon... =)
Twist a bit sure can get John kinda sound. hehehe
But seems John didnt use his sig guitar when he did his concert...
hell ya...artist, he just ask and the new strat will come. haha

...it's cheaper !

I was thinking of getting some franlins for my strat as well but havent seen them around at some of the guitar shops i patronize.

Anyone care to share where can i get some fralins here in SG?

TYMC

Vintage hots may not be the one for you, a cheaper alternative will probably be SD's SSL-1 set or to get even closer antiquities surfer set.

If you still want to get some fralins which are great stuff, I'd suggest real 54s.

Having played the JM strat for quite a bit the past few days, I must say... the only way to get his tone, is his guitar, and a nice vintage crunch amp. There's no 2 ways about it. The guitar pickups are so uniquely voiced, I've not heard anything else close to it. Not even the CS69s come close.
