Then again like every other Apple product, the next gen never fail to be a hit.So the iPad for now is a miss.

Apple ipad is really a good device all its features are fine and useful too.The iPad has a 9.7 inch color display, and is a mere half-inch thick. The iPad creates and defines an entirely new category of devices that will connect users with their apps and content in a much more intimate, intuitive and fun way than ever before,

Personally, I think that most people do not see what the people at Apple see.

The keyword here is Apps. Third-party iPhone applications.

Just look at the overwhelming popularity of the iPhone and the millions of applications software developers have created for it.

So, the iPad is not trying to be a netbook obviously. I mean, Apple has always been known to produce revolutionary products and not mere improvements on existing technologies. This, I feel is important to note.

I feel that the iPad is not trying to be a device that does everything but does specific tasks excellently, just like the iPhone.

I'm pretty sure the folks at Apple have thought through the overall design really carefully, and accepted the 'compromises' eg. absence of a USB port (A USB port would mean installing drivers for printers, scanners and anything else you might hook up), 16:9 viewing ration (design wise, it'd look oddly tall and skinny in portrait mode), absence of Flash (YouTube and Vimeo have both switched to H.264 for video streaming) etc.

From a marketeer's point of view, an iPhone application based OS is perfect for pushing for more useful applications that will benefit the software developers (economically), the consumers and technology in general, as the iPad platform will open up more possibilities of how it can be used in the commercial and end-user environment. Besides the stock applications, I can imagine that many more millions of Apps will be created for the iPad.

I feel that it's one of those things you have to experience it for yourself and use it, before jumping to conclusions merely based on rumors and detractors who are obviously biased against anything Apple.

Personally, I think it's a step forward.

Hahaha... thanks for the reputation points, dude. I wish I can exchange them for something like the NTUC Link points or credit card reward points but it's ok. I appreciate these too. Hee hee..

I don't qualify as a rabid Apple Fanboy because I still use my PC (like maybe 10% of the time, mostly to play games) but ever since I had an iMac (plus a Macbook which I sold away cos I needed the cash :() - it's like they say. You'll never look back. All of my friends who switched over to Mac have never, ever looked back. Everybody's been raving mad about it.

I don't condemn PCs but I feel that working on a Mac is totally a different experience. You feel almost totally liberated and I SWEAR your blood pressure will shoot up if you are comfortable with a Mac and have used it for years and then suddenly have to switch back to a PC for some reason.

I don't know about Windows 7 (heard some good things about it) but Windows Vista is a totally frustrating experience. Especially when compared to working on a Mac.

Apple sells 300,000 iPads on first day

SAN FRANCISCO - Apple Inc sold more than 300,000 iPads on the tablet computer's first day in stores, a strong showing that roughly matched Wall Street forecasts and mirrored the iPhone's debut in 2007.

Despite a solid opening weekend, which prompted several investment banks to raise their earnings and revenue forecasts, the bigger test will come later this year, as consumers outside the company's core fan base size up the iPad.

Questions remain about whether consumers will shell out $500 or more for a device that fits between a smartphone and a laptop, and which Apple hopes pioneers a new class of device.

It hopes the sleek iPad joins the iPod and the iPhone in its stable of successful consumer products, providing the next driver of growth as sales of its multimedia player and smartphone begin to moderate.

Should it take off, the iPad would not only provide a new market for component makers, but another platform for which software developers and content companies would hawk their wares.

Time will tell whether Apple has another bona fide hit on its hands, but media companies like New York Times Co and News Corp are betting the iPad will erect a profitable bridge from print to digital content.

as a student, i wouldn't buy ipad. I rather buy a laptop. But I think ipad would suit the needs of working adult especially in the field of architecture and design. They would need some portable file like device like the ipad.

Actually, I would want to have control surface iPad. Technically, 1Ghz ARM,256M RAM, with 8 gig flash, itself is a powerful spec for rompler synth like the big three.

On normal usage, it is a good PDA. If Microsoft could develop basic MSoffice for home, student and small office, it could proof it's usefulness as individual.

I mean, Apple has always been known to produce revolutionary products and not mere improvements on existing technologies. This, I feel is important to note.

Isn't the iPod a pimped out MP3 Player, the iPhone.... well, just a phone with a hell lot of apps? Isn't a MacBook or a MacBook Pro just a laptop? I'm not anti apple, neither am i a apple fanboy, but i think that Apple hit a jackpot with creating the iPod Touch and the iPhone with great marketing strategy so that many apps are available....

BUT, honestly, i dont see how it's really THAT revolutionary :/, the iPad concept was actually created quite a while back. Multi-touch? Well... it wouldn't take any company 15 years to think of it, Apple just did it quicker :P

So... according to MY knowledge, they ARE improving existing technologies. They didn't create the Phone, they didn't create the MP3 Player, they didn't create the first touch screen item, they didn't create the first laptop, they didn't create the first OS. :)

I think once Steve Job say that consumer do not need to buy anything. You need create a produce that people have the feel of wanting it and keep using it. People in the mad mad Mac world know this very well.
