fingering and picking is two different style, so there is no fighting about which style is more cooler and more professional. some songs u just cant play with a pick due to fast scaling and technics, also need to project more low end gain/ bass sound . some songs are better play with a pick, like constant riffing (example: punk) and need to project more sharp and treble sound.

I just moved from guitar to Bass, it seems, the tendency to use the pick is very strong...

Don't worry, it's always harder in the beginning.
Playing fast with your fingers requires coordination to ensure that you get an even sound with both fingers, so a lot of practice is involved.
I started on a pick too, but went on to learn how to play fingerstyle after being inspired by players like Cliff Burton and Steve Harris.
It will get better, and you will start to have fun playing fingerstyle.....until you have to sing backup as well. :?
