Any fans of SUGIZO?

Oh, does sugizo 's mama also play a violin/cello or those classical instrument? Thot i read it somewhere

Yeah..his mum was a cello player in the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra and his dad was a trumpet player in the orchestra so Sugizo started learning the violin at 3 and was forced to practise every single day..And later he fell out with his dad cos he wanted to play rock and his dad wanted him to go classical (very drama indeed  )

Well, if you're looking for emotional guitar solos without sacrificing tehnicality, may I suggest you listen to Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, and Randy Rhoads, among many others. Do check out 'Tender Surrender' By Steve Vai. So emotional it can make you weep. You won't regret it.

i love sugizo !!..

Hi there xinghong,

I agree with you too about the visuals part. Visuals are just as important as the music. If the band has good visuals and kick ass great technical ability to boot then they are really a serious force to be reckoned with. Pretty, handsome, plays well, great band....seriously what more can anyone want?

On the other hand even if your visuals are great but your music is lousy, you'll still be done in nonetheless. I think to compare Japanese Visual Rock to KISS is rather inaccurate. Firstly, Visual Kei band members in Japan look way cooler than a fat slobbering Gene Simmons and wrinkled Ace Frehley. The look most of the time in V-K is not about pure shock factor as you would find in KISS but rather beauty and elegance which is sorely lacking in that band. Could you find me something more vulgar?

T-shirt jeans and a beer belly is definately not what I want to see my ideal player to be in. I think if a guitarist can put in so much effort in his playing then he can also do the same with the way he looks. To be playing well and be fat and ugly is easy but to play well and be pretty or handsome is much much more difficult.

not that looking good has anything to do with the music.

If you sincerely think it does, you might wanna check out The Corrs. :)

IMO, i think Sugizo has his own style of playing both in terms of music and in theatrics.

However, I find him very repetitive. Many of his solos feature the same single-note-sustain-forever pattern, which limits melody a lot. He does have some excellent solos, personally, I like the solos to Rosier, Storm and I For You, to name a few.

He doesn't really shred... but shred isn't all there is to guitar right? 8)

I think he is better suited to composing experimental atmospheric stuff.

In the end, to each his own!

was it a duet with Inoran? sugizo really overshadows Inoran in luna sea. anyone watched the Extasy Summit Concert 1992? Luna Sea with X JAPAN. Sugizo was playing the guitar solo of 'X'..the way he tackled it..oh man....dun think hide and Pata could match. some incredible playing there. and he looks so calm and nochalant playing.

plus the guy can play some mean violin...

Yea, sugizo's a gd guitarist with emotional solos. PLus he have a really cool guitar too. Any news on how is inoran and sugizo doing these days?

Is that duet on acoustic guitar?

But i somehow prefer akira takasaki, check out crimson sky and cloudy day, really gd stuff.

SUGIZO formed The FLARE with Yuna, who is 10 years younger than SUGIZO.. so it's yuna on vocals and sugi on guitar. Yuna's voice doesn't sound very jrock to me, more korean-boyband sounding.... but on the whole, SUGIZO's solo career is going pretty well...check out http://www.sugizolove.com/

not sure about inoran though..

yeah the duet's on acoustic guitar.

sugizo was married to vivian hsu at some point in time was he not?

er no...SUGIZO dated vivian hsu for a while but they've broken up...heard he once told vivian hsu her jap's atrocious...

Yeah Sugi's rocks~~esp. his guitar slidin technique cause I think he implemented his violin teachin into his guitars playin!! Plus I own his guitar!!

Anw, music is universal and subjective so tats no need for u guys to argue who is better or wat, as long as u like it, who cares wat other ppl says.....

FYI..

Sugizo does shred..die-hard luna sea fans should have seen LUNA SEA's Image or Real concert. He shreded when he played Mechnical Dance and Sandy Time. During The FLARE's project..he also shredded alot..a hell lot.

Its not tat Sugizo wants to overshadow him. It was what inoran wants to. Inoran can shred too..but not many ppl noe that. However Inoran doesn't like to be in the limelight. Musical wise..inoran prefers to play rhythm. This explains all.

Sugizo used to be a bassist in his previous band before he joined LUNA SEA.

Sugizo adapted alot of his violin technics on to guitar. the way he plays..he sustains his notes and the way he plays his solo using octave/pitchshifter(not whammy ah..) effects explains all. Sugizo's technicality not only came from the musical education during his early childhood, when he picked up guitar, he also practices steve vai's pieces. With influences from Steve Vai, Kiss, Frank Zappa, YMO, Police etc, Sugizo's gradually developed his own style of play.

Some of you may not know abt this..Sugizo has composed music for chinese artists like his ex-galfren vivian hsu, namely "Ta Ta (he/she)", "Lao Fu Fu (old couple)" and the luna sea-ish track, "mo gui ai she chi de yen lei (devils's tear)" which also features his buddy, Shinya on drums. He also has composed 2 tracks for Nicholas Tse, namely "today is his birthday (cantonese)" and also "Wen Yi (plaugue)" which is also known as "Hou Yi (aftermath)" for its cantonese version. There is also a rarely known song composed for the veteran chinese singer Tracy Su. The song is called "zhi chi tian ya (so near, yet so far)", the demo of this song was featured in Sugizo's 1999 Grand-Cross compilation album and it was called "Dear Children".

Sugizo currently uses gauge 11 strings for his guitars. When he was much younger, during LUNA SEA's earlier days, he uses the common gauge 9 strings.

He's divorced and has a daughter name LUNA which now living in US. Sugizo will visit them once in a while. His daughter is Primary 6 this year if she is to study in Singapore. Sugizo is 39 this year. It was his ex-wife that led to the break-up of him and Vivian Hsu. To avoid confusion LUNA is not Vivian Hsu and Sugizo's product. Its a pity both of them broke up as Vivian Hsu's friends said that both of them really made a perfect match-made couple.

ok..enuff of his private life..

Its not that Inoran's solo works are like shit, its just that both of them shares different musical views. So please dun critcized Inoran.

Ryuchi is a freaking good and versatile vocalist. He sings and screams metal, den ventured into rock..den pop..den rock again. You try asking marilyn manson to sing pop songs la..see he can do it or not den come and criticize Ryu's voice, though i admit Ryu's voice sucks at some point.

ok..tats all folks..to much liao...fingers are tired..

REVIVED!!!

I was just looking for luna sea in google and voila I hit this page.
Anyone wants to talk bout luna sea or sugizo again?

I've been reading from the page 1 of this thread and came on conclusion that not everyone knows pretty much about Luna Sea musics and their skills.

I agree with deg,Sugizo did shred in Image era album,Inoran did too,the way they didn't shredding again because that's the musics they chose, they much prefer harmonization.

Also with X JAPAN fans, well if X JAPAN is so almighty great, how come they (Yoshiki in this term) asked help from LUNA SEA by making SUGIZO as 6th member.Probably you haven't heard that LUNA SEA going to reunite. But as agreed,SUGIZO joined X with his own reason on his blog "X JAPAN requires SUGIZO more as it's sixth member".
Because what?because all member of LUNA SEA can do on their own without tagging LUNA SEA name behind their names.Ryuichi still exist with his solo as Ryuichi Kawamura,J and Inoran still does too,Shinya been playing a tv shows. You see they can do on their own, they even gotten better after all these years, cause they successfully increase their skills.

so there you go your "greatest band" X JAPAN askin help from a "lousy band" LUNA SEA,lmao!!!!
not to mention, there lots of problem inside X JAPAN itself, postponements,Yoshiki sometimes made mistakes,Toshi's voice,Heath management,Yoshiki's dramas, empty promises and so on.No wonder,SUGIZO agreed to help them, cause the truth they really are so helpless.

though I agree with Ryuichi's voice around 1997-2000,I don't like it either. But probably not everyone knows (cause like I said not everyone knows Luna Sea) is that around 2005,Ryuichi's voice began to change,in 2007,he successfully changed his whiny and poppy voice. Please take a look at Luna Sea One Night Dejavu Concert, and his solo concert 70 no monogatari.I believe you'll be very impressed by his voice.

so keep an eye for them, once they're back, they'll be making great comeback with their perfect skills
time will tell

sugizo at extacy summit was just awesome, he and hide playing X together,
ironic that he would take off where hide left
