I think Sugizo was the best thing about Luna Sea. He really plays with his soul..complete with his very expressive body language. Anyone has audio/video clips of Sugizo's solos? Care to share??

maybe can look over to soulseek for their stuff. Ever see before some ppl have lotsa jrock stuff over there

I prefer inoran :D

oh..you like inoran better in terms of..?

Haven't really heard inoran play solos so i can't comment ..

looks wise i think Sugizo is chio with makeup ^_^

no offence dude, but i think those make up of jrock artist is really cheesy. Music wise, they are good, but the image really turn me off.

Perference prefrence :D , solo to me is not a must. Sometime to see how the rhythm guitarist fit in to the music is more important than just wacking away on the guitar doing solo.

You don't like the j-rock look?? Personally I <3 it :p
People like Yoshiki and Toshiya (DeG) just define the word chio ...plus they like showing lots of skin too..

 Hee....hee...There were KISS a couple of decades ago with their outragous getup, and many others before & after who made real good music which I still listen to today. Well, that much I can comment, though I have not seen the artist described in this tread....eh makes me an uncle already...hahaha..... :D

iam a guy also, even if they show every part of them without cloth, hahaha, i cant get a wee bit excited in any way

But good music, yeah i dig that

go check out seikima ii... basically japanese Kiss band :D

they've already disbanded... notably due to the "nostradumus" prediction of the world ending in 1999. lol.

visual rock is cool.

Ah well, my era wasn't KISS yet, so I'm not THAT old, but I guess I'll go along with X-Japan.

That's my all time favourite visual j-rock band. In my mind, no one can replace them man! Luna Sea tried to be their replacement, but they juz don't cut it.

Coolest J-Rock guitarist? X-Japan's HIDE.

hey gibson...yeah Malice did dress pretty wild..loved Gackt's super short shorts and Mana's mini-dresses..heard he wears skirts in real life ^_^ One thing I really liked about Malice was the drum-piano solos by Gackt/Kami. Pretty amazing combi..and the 2 of them could really make the 2 instruments blend well. Too bad X JAPAN's Yoshiki couldn't split himself into 2..he would probably have done some pretty amazing stuff on the drums and piano.

I love visual rock too..most Jap rockers put in lots of effort into designing their costumes and stuff...makes them a lot more exciting to look at..lots of pretty cross-dressers too

well hide wasn't the best technical guitarist but he's probably one of the biggest ever in Japan..and no one can deny the guy's got amazing style and originality..plus he's the cutest thing ever. Anyone been to the hide museum in Yokosuka?? It's my dream to go there someday..

Yeah, the fact is, most of the difficult X-Japan solos are actually played by Pata. But they way they connect and harmonize solo is the BEST.

Yeah, but he's still the biggest....maybe coz he's handsome and stuff too... LOL I used to think he's gay with Yoshiki though... VERY cool.

Pata's better at the guitar but hide was way more popular..stage personality maybe?? His solo career was really successful too..too bad it lasted for only 4 years or so...

hide-yo pairing sounds rather cute..

i love sugizo !!

to me guitar is not just about notes and the music, but also the image and performing flair. if u want to sit down and play go do it in ur bedroom. and u have to say sugizo has a unique style all of his own, even if u may not like it.

music-wise he may not be a very technical guitarist, but anyone who thinks he can't shred should go listen to the solo at the end of 'crazy about you' on the lunacy album. his style of soloing is slow single notes with lots of emotion, very melodic, punctuated by sudden rapid bursts of speed. so dun diss him on his technical ability. he's also a violinist btw

image-wise, not everyone likes makeup, but u can't deny the effort jrock artistes put into their onstage appearance. no one wants to pay big bucks to watch a couple of shaggy t-shirt wearing slobs on stage, unless u r one too. sugizo may be a bit too flashy, which may not be to everyone's taste. still, lots of ppl love it, myself included (n i am a straight guy btw)

can't really compare hide to sugizo, just like u can't really compare x japan's music to luna sea. they r really very different. x is still heavily influenced by 80s western rock, whereas there's no trace of that in luna sea.

as for comparing sugizo to inoran, well ... what comparison is there? to those who've heard inoran's sucky solo works, u wonder where all the talent he undoubtedly had in the earlier days has gone.

once again, i see another die hard jrock fan. Oh, does sugizo 's mama also play a violin/cello or those classical instrument? Thot i read it somewhere....

Haha, how come no one want to compare which black metal band is blacker, more evil and worst sounding than the rest

Ok, no offence, i had too much of caffeine...

Agreed. Visuals are important..for me I will get hooked if the player is very expressive..like when watching that person play, you feel lots of emotions...(so what if they aren't like No.1 in the world at the instrument?)

*nods*...it's way more interesting to watch ppl who look different..and you can't deny j-rockers really have established this dressing style of their own... Sugizo had funky boots *winks* and he isn't too flashy..

X's music is still heavily influenced by 80s western rock, whereas there's no trace of that in luna sea.

can tell u r more of a Luna Sea fan...I'm a die-hard X fan..i've never agreed with ryuichi's voice...and i think X pretty much had a style of their own tho Yoshiki was into Kiss..for one..it's not common to have rock bands doing intense piano/drum/guitar solos all combined into one..and has anyone noticed how all songs written by Yoshiki can be performed by an orchestra/rock band and sound really good?? Quite an amazing balance, i'd say..

Yeah! X is still the best man!! Alot of later bands cite X as their major influence, Luna Sea is no different.

Luna sea is by no way "lousy" but sadly, they went the way of X too and split.

Great things always come to an end.

Ps, the greatest guitar personality is still Hide.....LOL, of course thats coming from a long time X fan since 1990!
