Any double bassists in SG?

The number system should be quite easy. Each number represents a note, i.e. 1 - Do
2 - Re
3 - Mi
4 - Fa
etc.

From the key signature of the piece, you should be able to play the song just by looking at the numbers. Dots above and below the numbers represent higher and lower octaves.

language evolves. if people want to say sia, let them.

Really? What evidence have you got that Malay language has 'evolved' to include the mangling by short mongoloid tongues?

it evolved in a way...
what i observe from my malay friends in mother tongue class and outside class...they tend to shorten the words, easiest example is the word 'perempuan'...most of them them pronounce it as 'pompuan'...which is totally wrong...the words which end with 'a' always pronounced as 'e'
that's why when i enter malay class for the very first time,i couldnt understand anything for nuts...the malay that they're speaking is the slang version, not the formal one [bahasa baku]...
bro...being concerned bout certain things is good, but if you're over concerned, that's when you are classified as kaypo...and perhaps you should take a good look before correcting other people...even the malay themselves speak all this kind of sial siol siak...we speak for fun only what, its not like we're going for some O level oral...

@godchuanz : So if i know the Key of the piece is in G

Then if they write : 1 - 3 - 5 - 2

the notes are : G B D A ?

rylche

yup, you're right .. but that doesn't define the chord character of that particular note, whether it's a major or a minor, but for bass players doesn't really matter until you're going into the realm of soloing/improvising or anything relating to chords.

no no no chinese orchestra double bassists still read bass clef. Im a double bass player in CO. Cellos also read bass clef. Everyone else reads numbers.

ya la, why so angry sia...

singlish is a non-defined language, u can be as angry as you want to be but you speak singlish too (i don't know of a singaporean who has not spoken a single word of singlish) it's unavoidable. if u speak pure english, half the population won't understand you. if you write wrong malay/chinese words, nobody would really care because who would use teh word "SIAL" in a formal written essay or letter?

don't argue about trivial things. SPEND YOUR TIME DOING MORE PRODUCTIVE STUFF DAMIT!

n i got tricked too, i thought rlyche was some 20+ guy lol

How about "Tony Makarome"??

Bass man =P

Dr Makarome is an asst prof(music theory) in YST, anyone knows how much per hr to engage him? he uses a rare left handed double bass model (i'd say rare in sg cos for the many years of my bass playing life its the only time i seen a left handed double bass in SG, tho there's alot of them out there in US, pardon me for my swakoo-ness)

SSO double bass tutors cost roughly around $90 per hour depending on who you manage to get. Don't really know about Dr Makarome but you can use the SSO tutors as a rough gauge.
