hey all, would like to know if there are any differences between analogue or digital effects in terms of the quality of sounds created ? :) heard much about how analogue is purer n better? But is that true ? n if so, in what sense ? thanks!

IMHO,

Many will say that analogue sounds better, and there is plenty of truth in that.

But on the other hand, digital has it's far share of fans as well.

Whatever people might say, the eventual decision is yours to judge which sounds better. Go with which that sounds better to you, not by which people say sound better.

But of course, the general concensus is that analogue triumphs because it simply sounds warmer, and has more character. It just sounds better because of it's imperfections.

Digital effects are generally more sterile, precise and clinical. Of which works wells in some cases. I prefer and am using a digital delay despite the warmth of an analogue counterpart.
But when it comes to distortion and fuzz, digital ones just fail to hold the fort, imho.

Read the Guitar Sticky dude. And that's to all the other people who are new here. Seriously.

At the very least, post on those threads.

Digital efx can sound bad, depending on the brand bought. Say, u buy a cheapo Beringher and it sounds crappy. Well, duh, its so cheap. Now lets say u buy a PodXT Live or GT-8. I bet even the more experienced guitarists won't be able to differentiate between the real deal and the digitised versions in a blindfold test.

no dissing intended. Its all in the name of making fun, even though i know how well the thing work. But i aint too obsessed or serious.

Shucks. Now u sound serious. I should have put an emoticon like this --> <-- after my 1st line.

I wonder how version 2 (if its coming out) will look like. Size of an MXR Phase 90?

I think many people do not realize that in many studios the digital effects are on a seperate track, and live are played through a seperate amp. Using a digital processor to effect 100% of your signal is asking for trouble.

Digital effects, by design, greatly limit your dynamic range. So, you play harder, but the sound is not louder. Being able to play lightly versus hard is a vital element for me. If I must use a digital processor I definately want to have a completetly "uneffected" version of the sound somewhere in my chain.

Why would I choose a setting of "Black Face Twin" when I could just play out of a Black Face Twin and get the real thing?

On most processors you get 128 different sounds, only 3 of which really sound good. A good basic amp with a distortion pedal will get you pretty far.

"Effect" is an interesting word. If I went to a movie that was all effects, I would be watching a cartoon. But one effect, used on occasion, might make me think Superman can really fly....

Juat a thought...
