Analog delay and reverbs

Hey. After
Reading godspeed guide and also listening to clips of analog and digital delays.
Just wondering whether for reverb the analog or digital will win.
Im actually gonna combine both reverb n delay and im not sure so what to get.

I play alt stuff and mostly Paramore and I'm wondering what will be a good combo to replicate the tone for their intro of "decode" and "when it rains"

Cheers!

it's not who will 'win'

ultimately in the search for the ultimate geetar tone everything is subjective, your ears matter most........

"Analog" reverb would be an actual spring reverb tank or a huge reverb plate, like how they used to do it in studios http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reverberation#Creating_reverberation_effects

It's safe to say all reverb pedals are digital.

You can probably get by with a simple room or plate reverb on pedals like the EHX Holy Grail Nano or Boss RVs. Don't go for those that have only spring.

For Decode, you'll want a pretty clean digital delay with tap tempo. Don't be tempted by the sweet and simple analog sounds because that's not what you need for most rhythmic alt rock stuff.

little lanilei spring reverb pedal, with actual spring reverb tank in there...

The winning one would be when knowing how to utilise the gear to suit the music context you are doing. Being analog or digital doesnt win, coz most of us geetarers doesnt really understand the theory behind nor able to make it stand out so much in a piece of music to make majority of the listeners to know that its analog...

Imho, choose one within the budget and features be more practical. Analog and digital, leave it for the geek who prolly read too much and understand too little.

i have thoughts for the biyang tri reverb and also ehx memory toy...but can those pedal be used in the long run?

in the long run as in

1) If the 2 mentioned gear can work many many years later without breaking down

or

2) If the 2 mentioned gear will never sound oudated many many years later?

If the above choice is 1), then dont worry, this one no one can give a definitive answer, coz a big part of the working of electronic products, depend on the person using it and whether care are taken to ensure the usage. There can be expensive gear which can failed in early stage of usage wheras a cheapo mass produced pedal can last till it became rare and start appearing in 2nd hand market for ridiculous prices sold by over enthusiastic sellers

And if the above choice is 2), then for sure, this one no need to worry. Reverb and delay on its own, will never sound oudated. If it does, it will usually comes from the writing, arrangement style of the music and over usage of it in a music arrangement with other instrument added in.

Oh yeah, if its 3), Not sure if you will still be using it many years later. Hehe, this one, if you are the one using and aint sure. Let alone us.

Oh well, just go geetar shop, try, within budget, buy and play away!

thanks man!
totally understood!
my budget is around 160 for both reverb and delay pedals second hand and what will be a ideal pedal

I just bought a Muza FD900 from Carboxymoron which has both reverb and delay, pretty good pedal for the price, however, it's not available here right now. You can try the FD90, but some say that it has noise issues. Then again, if you're just playing in the bedroom at low levels, shouldn't be able to hear it and shouldn't matter

Don't bother with the FD90 as it is so darn noisy.

Delay I'd say DE-7 and reverbs tend to be costly.. Cheapest is around SGD$150 like the Hardwire series and that is second hand. You can try a Biyang Tri-Reverb from SV Guitars, but it does a 'normal' hall reverb, nothing uber ambient about it.
Or just get ONE pedal like the echo park.. Really useful pedal with tons of options to be had! Or source out a FD900.

IMO don't get the Memory Toy, it kinda sucks. You need to expand your budget if you want something decent. Focus on getting one thing at a time.

Please don't get the Memory Toy. It will NOT serve you well for rhythmic alt rock stuff. Stick to digital delays, with tap tempo if possible.

The Biyang reverb will do, you do not need anything fancy for reverb.

This is basically a repeat of what I said earlier lol

digital delay do you mean dd3?
seems like the price doesnt suit the functions of pedals though

please intro me some delay as im too pampered with my built-in efx amp that i sold recently...
now moving back to compact pedals \m/

What do you mean the price doesn't suit the function? Delays and reverbs are on a different starting price range compared to simple overdrive and distortion circuits because of all the electronics involved.

I mean Digitech HardWire DL-8, Boss DD-5/6/7/20, Line 6 Echo Park, Muza FD900, TC Nova Repeater or Nova Delay, Vox Time Machine... hell, even a cheapo Behringer if you wanna take the risk. DD-3 also can, but it has no tap tempo.

The Hardwire delay is a pretty good delay pedal IMO. You might want to start with that, about $150ish 2nd hand. Can do quite a few different delays. For me, my always on delay is set to something similar to an analogue kinda delay, warm sounding, not so in your face. If I ever need to use something more pristine, then I'll use the digital delay function
