Framus Cobra

Framus Cobra Head

Framus-Cobra-Head.jpg

Features: 9
ah, the in'framus' cobra head. 3 channels of insanity. no reverb though, would have been a great feature. however, has 2 master volumes footswitchable. has a notch up switch which to my ears tightens up the sound. all three channels have something special bout them. only if you like it or not. efx loop and speaker out to 4/8/16ohms cabs. fierce red glow from the tubes too. looks scarily awesome. i dont know if a head can offer more. all channels footswitchable. would have scored a 10 but no reverb.

Sound:8
Clean channel
- Sparkly cleans!!.. oh my god one of the best clean sounds ive EVER heard off a high gain amp. its very dynamic and great from country to blues. those are not genre's of my forte but id say sounds pretty damn awesome for that area. its a more modern sounding clean. but it works for all i do so hey i like! the clean channel on this also takes drives and stuff very well. pedals i mean. it has a notch switch which adds compression to the clean which is nice to. i use it without the notch though.

Crunch channel
- This is where the amp loses points with me. im finding it very marshally but very..... tight. i dunno maybe its me. its hissy but i have a few of my buddies come over and say the crunch channel is one of the best they've ever heard. howeevr at higher gain settings on the cruch channels, it really shines. its a great rhythm channel with an amazing bottom end. the notch switch however tightens it up a way bit too much and works well only in a high gain setting.

Lead Channel
- This is where its at!. killswitch engage at your finger tips. it hits those high gain in you face tone so well its insane. a framus tone and no other way to describe it. more gain than ive ever heard out of an amp. with an amp like this, you'd never need an od pedal. seriously. nothing to boost. highly doubt any normal human would play it at highest gain setting. the notch switch here is great. it tightens your sound and great for those metal riffin attack. without the notch its huge. like a mark tremonti on steroids. only other amp ive heard that can hit such bottom end yet retain its mid range attack is the hughes & Kettner triamp.

Overall: 8
every eq knob on this amp works together with the next. very responsive. every channel has a presence knob which is a great idea and feature i failed to mention at the start. pricey though but worth the dough.

TSL-100 Review Anyone?...i still do not undersand..why a normal share thread on amps can require so much non-related suggestions and comments...:?:

What happened to Rackenstein? He should do a review on his Bogner Uberschall as well....

Pedalitis : Any sound clips of your Orange Rockerverb? I couldn't get out my kind of sound when I had one so I would love to see what you could get out of it.

Bogner Shiva Review

Someone asked for a bogner shiva review. I totally agree with pedalitis about trying new amps and broadening your knowledge about different amps and how they sound.

I've had a bogner shiva for a few years now - mine is the updated version with the bright switch and updated effects loop, EL34 - non reverb.

Features - 8.5: Nothing too flashy here, but it has everything you need in an amp. Its a channel switcher - one clean channel and one overdrive channel. There's a boost that you can use with either clean or the overdrive. Boost gives clean a BIG volume boost or a nice breakup, and gives the overdrive higher saturation and sustain. There are lots of ways to play with the controls to tweak volume / preamp overdrive / poweramp overdrive. Everything is switchable with a footswitch, reverb is an option.

Sound - 9: There's a reason for the hype. The clean channel is full and bell-like, to me its like a blend between a vox and fender clean. I personally think the cleans on my vibroverb are better, but as channel switchers go the clean is VERY good. It also has a lot of headroom, which makes the clean channel a very good complement for pedals.
Overdrive - this is where it's at - classic brown sound / Guns n Roses / Alice in Chains / Aerosmith. The most common description of this channel is that it's what a marshall is supposed to sound like, only better. I play the head through a Mesaboogie 4x12 with v30s, basically, instant hardrock heaven. By itself it doesnt do modern rock liquid lead tones like satriani / vai etc, but add an overdrive pedal and it does the trick perfectly. Fulltone FD2 into the overdrive channel = instant smooth and sustain. It wont get as heavy as the uberschall or recto though.

Overall -9: It's still my favourite amp. I've played and owned really nice tube amps from Mesa Boogie, Fender, Marshall, Fuchs, THD, which all do somethings really really well. I really think why the Shiva is so easily appealing is that it's just got a really good classic clean and classic rock tone, period. It sits very very well in a band mix because it has beautiful mids, and the the master volume actually makes it sound amazingly good at low volumes. Obviously everything sounds better louder....but hey, we don't live in a perfect world and unfortunately volume control is a reality in this one.

Park G10r

park-g10r.jpg

Features:

It's got seven knobs. Some of them are for making it louder and some of them are for making it sound more better. It's got a plug for a guitar and headphones and one for a power chord which is handy.

Sound:

It sounds really loud, especially if you sit too close. It's not as loud when you use the headphones.

Overall:

It's really nice for making your guitar louder.

Pedalitis.. How bout a comparison of the Rockerverb vs the Triamp, and if possible, a Rectoverb in the fray as well? I know you've owned the Orange and H&K before..

Is there a knob on there for increasing your IQ? Somewhere to 8-9 would be perfect for you, although I've heard some of these Park Marshalls go to 11.
