Amps of the World!!!!

i am sure there is someone with a shiva. hmmm... id say the single coils with the distortion on the jc is ... ok la for blues and stuff... but humbucks ita kinda weird... hmmm and yes shred if you neeeeed direct. to me the distortion sucks. i play from post rock to nu age metal;.

i dont play shred or metal and yet i still find the drive odd.

yeah i've been hunting for the 6L6 shiva combo. i hope as far as possible i dont have to bring it in from somewhere else.

No, I don't need you to be direct - I just prefer clear reviews.

If I ignored what you wrote before this (JC's dirt sounds okay for blues) then what you're saying now ("the distortion sucks") doesn't tell me anything other than the dirt isn't your cup of tea, right?

*shrugs*

I don't have a problem with you but since you know about a bunch of amps that most SOFTies would never experience in person, I suppose its great since we all can chip in and discuss the pros & cons of the gear. I hope this includes making good reviews better.

Actually, the drive IS quite nice. I played it at full drive with a strat. Nice fuzzy distortion. Quite nice for blues. Horrible for anything else...:D

That's what I thought too... on single coils, the fuzzy is nice & loose. With humbuckers... too tight and just odd.

I believe City Music has the Bogner Alchemist on order/in stock.

Ok,i'm apologise for digressing from the thread by diccusing on the bogner.haha sorry sorry

As for the the bogner alchemist.I don't know whether it would be worth getting the bogner alchemist or the bogner custom shop bogner.haha

as for the Jc-120,Pedal-itis,your review has further convince me getting a JC-120 might me good.I thought it was out of production actually.I heard raving reviews about their sparkling cleans and how they take pedals very well and now,i'm pretty convince its worth getting one in my case since it falls into what i'm looking for.well,as soon as i get save up for one at least but i'll wait till you review the Orange Rockerverb 50 .inbetween that and a JC120 and few other amps.

Nice review on JC120 amp.

BOGNER ECSTACY!!! I would like to hear more about it if anyone owns one or has tried it. :) Heard its the only amp better than the MKII. However, the Tri amps are the most versatile i've come across so far. 8) For the JC, nice review Pedal-it-is. Makes me feel like getting one too. Haha

alright shred, what ever ya say man. yes i have had the privilege to try and own quite a number of amps, not very experienced at giving reviews., but im sure your widespread of great knowledge would be appreciated here. to be completely crystal clear. i dont play blues. with a single coil i kinda like it. a little... but i know i can get better from a pedal, and for an AMP it sucks. dude, really this thread is not for you man, you know you have YOUR opinions you should start a shred cow thread. anyways, it was just a FIRST review, cut me some slack almighty one.

You got your preconceived notions about me, I think you're wearing them notions like glasses whenever you look at my posts. Take them off. I think its really up to you how you wish to perceive whatever I say/do, even though it might be a perfectly well-meant act on my part.

Just 1 thing, I was never condescending to you in my posts on this thread. I certainly don't think I acted in an "almighty" manner and my comments were clearly meant to help improve the thread in general.

I appreciate a well-mannered response, but tantrums... bring it to harmony central or meet me in person about it ya? ;)

Sorry made an error....the JC120 uses op-amp and clipping diodes for distortion and the 2SK117's were used as Fet switching for it's transparency.

The early Roland cube series used 2SK117's as preamp transistors....:)

There are definitely clipping diodes (d1 and d2) but from this schematic it looks like there are jfets for switching and as gain stages. I think the opamps appear only in the chorus and reverb.

http://www.freeinfosociety.com/electronics/schematics/audio/Roland-JC120-JC160.pdf

Either way, I think its the best amp of all time, ever.

I can't recall but (I think it was Goose) someone mentioned that the older JCs do sound different?

Anyone care to elaborate on the difference - circuit-wise and tonally?

Widdly ...so i was right but it was the first issue according the freeinfosociety schemo. you posted.

The later here and here shows op-amps with clipping diodes.

So the various years have nothing to do with the clean tones? Its just changes to the distortion?

Am not a techie so I can't really read schematics. And I don't know how an op-amp preamp or jfet preamp impacts sound.

+1 to all the JC discussion above and also

YOU DON'T WANNA JC120 IN YOUR BEDROOM!!!!

volume at 0.5 max?

of course you do shred! Opamps sounds boxy remember? ;)

*ducks from shreddy's fookin fury*

Uh Ohhhhh...

I'll stay clear of all opamp-ed preamp-ed JCs from now...

But really ah? What's truth for dirt pedals (opamps sound boxy) = truth for amps?

Good one Widdly ....looks like they went from ok to not ok. <- purely a personnal opinion so please dont kill me for it.

I have a pack of 2SK117's and there are pretty good for buffer and maybe low/medium gain, nothing more as they seem to put too much fizz. :)
