ALLAN HOLDSWORTH

Those of u at the Masterclass witness a phenomenal session of what it means to listen to the rest of the band members in a improvisitional context and play by ear.
These guys exemplify the art of collective playing of the highest order - the emotion of classical, the freedom of jazz improvisation and the ferocity of rock.
Is there anybody out there to concur or am I alone in this lost cause?

I went, worth every cent. I think at one point Chad and Jimmy had trouble understanding what he was trying to say.

didn't manage to attend the mastercalss session- had to attend to sick spouse...

have watched Holdsworth in a live situation though. the thing with Holdsworth & company, music is an extension of their thoughts & feelings. music should be embraced as such.

any news of an autograph session after the concert proper?

Not sure if there's one after the gig but Holdsworth is sure a laidback, friendly kind of guy and the trio signed my cd! :D

On a sidenote, there are times when I find his music too complex to digest! Love his tone though, got to caress his synthaxe, its quite small.

holdsworth

Sure he'll sign your cds, a friend of mine brought a stack of cds and he signed them all.The three of them are the nicest bunch of musicians I've met considering their legendary status.

Watching them in performance last night ,it dawned on me that this is like watching a 21st century rendition of John Coltrane, Jimmy Garrison and Elvin Jones, pushing boundaries ,weaving in and out and taking it to the limit.
Holdsworth after the session that its gonna be even better tomorrow! Wow,

These guys paid for their own ticket to come over here to play in Singapore for their fans , can you beat that !

"improvised music to be experienced tonight"

So, how did u guys find the concert. I felt really sleepy at some points even while my favourite holdsworth songs were being played! 8O Darn that world cup final!

But overall, its was well worth the money, i enjoyed it more than the pat metheny one. The whole trio was amazing! Love that drum solo!

Wow, what a great concert. At times the music was a little too complex, but still, great music after a long time.

I loved that section when allan played those sweet chords without the rest joining in. Anyone knows what song that was?

Nice gig although I must say, just like cloudsky, I felt a bit sleepy too at some points of the show tonight specially the part where his doing all this chordal volume swells for about 4 minutes. Maybe I just had a long day at work before coming to the concert. But overall, it's ferocious playing from the 3 masters tonight. :)

Crapped my pants watching the concert. Awesome stuff by all three musicians. Holdsworth has to have the scariest technique i have ever seen live. I too agree that this is better then the metheny one.

The first set was damn awesome...but the 2nd set really floored me.

Were there many people there? Kinda late notice for this gig.....

I saw these guys play before in a jazz bar n the first 30 mins was mindblowing, after that kinda sleepy too....

fantastic performance. was alone in my VIP seat block, manage to stretch my legs on the seats...

despite his endorsement, Holdsworth prefers his Steinberger...

Absolute time of my life to witness such greatness! Allan Holdsworth's immaculate tone and style performed live in the flesh was a lifetime's experience for me.

Was up in the top at the cheapest seats last night, it was a great concert although yes, was SO SO sleepy at some points =)

Can't say I thought much of the structures of his songs though, honestly speaking. Maybe it was too complex for me, especially since I've never been quite into this style of music (what IS Holdsworth classified as?). MIND BLOWING technique tho, that was just amazing to watch and to listen to.

An experience, nonetheless. I felt a bit young in the crowd, sitting there in my Junior College uniform, haha. I think the concert might have been nicer in a smaller location though, would've been brilliant to be closer to him and to the music.

I also very young, poly student nia  . I must say I really love Allan Holdsworth's tone!! I check today's strait times newspaper to see if there was any coverage but there was none, zlich! They covered only coldplay.

You should have went for his masterclass! Then you can get really close to him, talk to him, etc. :D

yeah it was a great gig especially when he played stuff from his period with Tony Williams Lifetime and his IOU album........amazing sound and technique ditto the drummer and bassist all so damn good.

but they really shldve done the gig in a smaller more intimate venue...what was the organiser expecting? 1000plus ppl?

musically i wld say his music is jazz-rock fusion, and thats just a simple generalisation. If you liked the music pls check out these albums:

Allan Holdsworth - IOU
Allan Holdsworth - Metal Fatigue
New Tony Williams Lifetime - Believe It
Bruford - One of a Kind

(he played on all the above)

for other great fusion try:

Miles Davis - Big Fun / Bitches Brew
Mahavishnu Orchestra - Birds of Fire
Return to Forever - Romantic Warrior
Al Di Meola - Elegant Gypsy
Weather Report - Heavy Weather
Tortoise - TNT
Terje Rypdal - Waves

am i goin on too much??? hehehehe
