All Things Ukulele

Hi I'm new to the forum. While I was in Hawaii recently, I came across this fella http://www.jakeshimabukuro.com/english/top.html# and after hearing his music, I couldn't help myself and bought a ukulele.

I am wondering if there are any ukulele groups or even teachers in Singapore. Gave up on the guitar long time ago because I travel alot and can't bring it along on my trips. The uke seems like the perfect instrument for travelling....

Anyway, if there are any ukulele players in Singapore by any chance, gimme a holla.

hehe I started a banjo thread the other day and no one replied ... I like ukelele too... how much did you get for yours?

Pier.

I bought it from a Uke shop at the Hilton Hawaiian Village in Waikiki. There are cheaper Ukes to be bought online but you can't get a feel for the tone/finish online of course. The Uke shops in Hawaii do carry Ukes with prices from usd200+ and upwards. Perhaps some of the guitar shops in Singapore have Ukes for sale or can special order.

Listening to "Walking on Rainhill" by Jake Shimabukuro now....Great album!

How did you lose your uke?! D'Addario make Ukulele strings too. Check with the local dealers. Otherwise it would be pretty cheap to buy it online since postage would be next to nothing for something so light.

Pier,

Check this site out: http://www.ukuleleworld.com/

They got a good selection of affordable and decent quality Ukes. Int'l shipping is available too. They can be trusted from what I read in other Uke forums.

Cheez,

The site above also carry alot of the hard to find Uke strings from Hawaii if that is what you prefer. Otherwise GHS is also another brand apart from D'Addario which is easier to obtain in SG.

If there are enough guys/gals interested, maybe we can do get-togethers to learn and play...afterall, a ukulele is portable enough to carry everywhere.
