Advice on Overdrive pedals for good lead tone?

Not to get exactly sound alike but I was wondering, does anyone have advice on how to get nice overdrive lead tones like Synister Gates of A7x?

Ahhh, maybe I'm asking for waaay too much. Time to change question and be more informative.

Lets start again.

Hello all nice people here, I need some advice after trying a few overdrive pedals here and there. I have a budget of about $100, and am trying to get a good sounding overdriven lead tone. Most probably, little warm but really thick.

I've tried Boss OD - which was too mellow
OD 2 - too thin but less mellow
A couple of amps overdriven tones, awesome but am looking for a pedal for easy gigging, no need for heavy amp carrying.

Appreciate any nice response and sorry for the starting post. Also, how's TS9 sound, my friend recommended it.

A7x? Thats pretty heavy.

You are asking for a standalone drive pedal right?

How would an OD pedal rack up enough gain for that?

anyway, at your budget of 100, its down to the 2nd hand market.

Yeah, a standalone one easy use for gigs.

OD pedal rack? Anyway, yeah, I'm thinking of saving up more with this 100 bucks but its real tempting.

Depends on what guitar you're using. TS9's great as a booster or slight overdrive IME, but the best thing you can do is to try it out for yourself.

Also, try a modded BD-2 :)

Ahhh, will do. I think I'm heading down SL to try out TS9. Anyway, I'm using an Ibanez RG with stock pups.

modded BD-2? Ahh smashinggggg.

TS9 at 100? Impossible to get, pretty hard to find someone who's selling at that price even for 2nd hand. An OD pedal can't rack up that much again for A7X kinda stuff. Unless of course you're using it to boost an already driven tube amp.

Danggggggg. Nice, I am getting one of those, or trying those out first lol. Anyway, I'll look Luthers for second hand hopefully.

Pretty nice, not your usual Boss's or Digitech's. :D

Thanks SC.

EDIT: It really looks like Behringer's GDI21. Sounds alike? Maybe not. :D

Yes I know. Mainly, I'm just looking somewhere for some good overdriven lead tones for my solos much like what A7x has but little warmer.

The BlackStar.

In Singapore?

Is Blackstar warm and thick?

Depends alot on your amp's settings man actually.

What i like is that its hairy and full of sizzle, you may dial it anway if you want but I tell you, its ALMOST always better to have a pedal that has bite/precense/sizzle than one that is just plain smooth/buttery/muddy (e.g. Bad Monkey). In a rock context.

A little OT but on the Blackstar. How come it has 2 drive knobs?

One knob (A) handles the drive on the Bass Frequencies.

The other knob (B) handles drive on the other freqs.

So.

You can dial in the amount of drive you use normally on B. When done, play thru amp and then tweak the amount of bass drive to the amp.

Its ridiculously useful.

Ask Namle. I sold him one. hahaha.

Wow, thanks SC, never though of that before.

Anyway, I'll be going down SL this weekend try this shits. Haha and hopefully, I'll get it next week after much saving.

EHHH, does SL have that BSTAR?

Nope. pm hub37.

And do check out tech21 products, they are great stuff. Underrated, for whatever reasons I cannot figure out.
