a guitar that can chug and play classic rock

I've try Slash's Alnico II Pro, Jimmy Page's Little 59 and Satriani's Dimarzio Fred on my epiphone les paul. The Alnico II Pro was jus, well too Slash-like and too raw. Jimmy's Little 59 is great for 70's rock but jus too "PAF", and I settled for Satriani's Fred in the end cos I saw him play classic rock, techno and blues pretty much using the same pickup. So I bought the pickup for the versatibility of it, but something is missing. I really wanna settle the guitar problem quick so that I can practice without worrying what kinda setup I'm gonna use. I guess I'll settle for a PRS custom 24 cos you dun need to change the pickup, or change the set up too much. In my opinion the baddest guitar you can pull off the shelf without customising it. Jus perfect for me!

Well just make sure you try it out to make sure. The CU24 is a very different sort of beast compared to a LP. It's a lot less chunky and more articulate. I like them 'cos they're more versatile than a LP. Try out a CU22 and CU24 and see which neck pickup tone you prefer. And compare it with the Gibson LP and PRS Singlecuts since you're looking in that range of the market. These guys are all capable of classic rock and chugga, just refined differences.

Also beware of the Davis "no picks on premium guitars" policy I hear about.

The humbucking 59 is not little 59.
Its the single coil sized one that's called lil' 59

I agree with the comments of Viruz, Phil, ShredCow, subversion and theblueark.

Next time, I should remind myself to shut up.

No ark, its because Thor's getting tired. Really. No pun intended.

Its always been like a piece of gear upgrade will give you magical benefits. So many in SOFT are in that mindset.

Anyway, I have a nagging feelling that Rollercoaster's issues are attributed to the following 2 things.

1) Settings
2) Technique

I bet that Rollcoster, if you got some of your more experienced friends over to help your setup and/or playing, you;ll find your tone improve.

To the misconception of many, the PRS mccarty is more LP-like soundwise than the singlecut. The singlecut is similar with the LP only in looks, the mccarty is the closest model PRS has on offer to the LP.

To Rollercoaster, do note that most recordings by artists have gone thru audio engineering to make it sound better, such as high quality compression. So many factors comes down to hand, even subtle details such as the room/studio which u are playing in all makes a difference..

I'm one of those guys who can't stand spending hours and hours trying to nail a tone, (my record time of playing around with my amp settings at home is like 10 mins and I almost go crazy, the more I listen the more blur I become)plus I dun have a 100 watt amp to fool around with

that's why u dont have the chug, because ur lazy :P

and who needs a 100watt amp to chug? :P

Hey Shredcrow, can you teach me how to work on my settings so that I can get that chug sound? I dun think it has to do with my technique cos it's jus tuning down to Drop D and strumming and palm muting the last three strings. So I dun see where I can go wrong with that.....

Ah. Okay. PM me your email add, will add you to msn, then we can talk from there.

You'll be surprised at how the common technique of palm muting can go wrong. I've seen people struggle with such a "simple" technique.

Exactly!
Sometimes you just have to rely on yourself.

exactly! alot of us here are simply too 'gear oriented' instead of 'playing oriented' . The frustration over our inferior gears will not make us play any better, so why bother, just make do with whatever you got, know that there are so many struggling guitarists around still schooling having to make do with their cheap strat copies and crappy practise amps

From my experience, it usually takes ALOT of time to know what kinda tone you want, and even more time to know the characteristics and realise the full potential of the new pickup, guitar, pedal, amp or whatever new gear you've just acquired. So if you're constantly replacing your gears without settling down on one, chances are you wont know what tone you want and you dont get your tone

Is there a guitar that can chug and play classic rock at the same time? I've been looking for a guitar like this for quite some time, but given my limited technical knowledge, I can't find it! if anyone of you know such a guitar exists, please kindly enlighten me!

ehehehehehe, you sure it ain't just a case of G.A.S??? :D:D:D
