50s or 60s neck?

hey peeps,

i'm pretty sure this has been done b4. been reading up a lot on my own too. but the words too chuncky and not chunky enough just stopped making sense to me.

so to all the seasoned gibson les paul owners out there, seriously which one makes for a better sound? i guess personal feel has a lot to do with it too. so i'd just like to get a feel from some users, maybe the genres u play, maximum standing gig time?

would help a lot.

finally gathered enough guts and cash to drop on my 1st gibson, need to make it count!

50's tend to hold higher value for an aging gibson...i personally love the 50's neck..not a fan of too thin necks..60's is not bad too..but i still like the thick chunky 50's

If you're used to fender's c-shaped like I am, then i suggest going for the 60's slim taper. The switch in neck feel was not so awkward for me but i think ultimately it depends your personal tastes. Why don't you try the types out before buying?

imo, a LP must have a 50s neck...
60s neck tends to go better with SGs...

both will be more balanced that way.

and dont expect 60s neck to be pencil thin...its still pretty chunky if all you're used to are ibanez...it also feels slightly thicker than fender's modern C profile.

hah i acutally went down to try the guitar out some time back, to see the difference between the classic and the standard, the 50s and the 60s neck.

but i'm a lil ashamed to say that with that honeyburst LP in my hand i did more gwaking than playing. lol and after a while the guy attending to me i guess just felt weird for the guitar and took it from my hands.

you guys rmb peter green? yea tts totally kinda the tone i drool for. so i guess i wanna know if the 60s neck in your opinion compromises that luxurious tone that the LP's known for.

plus this thing abt LPs becoming lighter. theory tells me that there would be some compromise. how practically true is this?

*re-sale value matters to you, the 50s profile is in greater demand + retains a higher value

i replicate my Edwards' set up on my LP- i prefer Edwards... gonna swap my Gibson hardware to GOTOHs this weekend to hear if there's any diff in tone- this might just forgive the bland feel i get from this LP :roll:

Yeah i also like peter green tone, made more famous by gary moore.

Neckwise, i prefer 50s due to it being more comfortable. I guess, only ppl buy a gibson shld be concern abt 50s or 60s neck for resale purposes. I think if u r selling an edwards or any other brand, ppl r less picky abt it.

So if buy gibson, then think more for resale n value. If others, think for confort when playing vs the dif in tone.
