07.07.07, Free hugs campaign in Singapore?

well, you'll never know. it may not save someone's life, but it feels good.
i was feeling a little down the other time and was just walking down the streets of Orchard. and just nice, some kids were there giving hugs. i just went up to them. "hey, i need a hug." and honestly, it felt good.
but this might not apply to everyone, i understand. just sharing how i feel. don't come flaming me now. heh.

@rx7 - what if the one you want to get a hug from the most doesn't wanna give you a hug cause he/she is angry at you? what if all those who care about you are say, really busy with their own stuff? would it hurt to just get a hug from someone? at least someone's there to hug you. and at times like that, a hug from a stranger is better than none at all.

well,maybe I'm just not the touchy/huggy type of person when it comes to perk me up..
but yeah y'know,the feeling of being better after being hugged by a stranger might just be a preconceived feeling after seeing the videos..before that video came up..I guess most people might have felt they were a part of some Gotcha or something..
it does boil down to self-perception on the hugging campaign..and what you expect of it...
I might want to experiment.rather than a be a prick on this subject,I wanna understand what other people experience by being part of it.
but still,stranger hugging let's out a different signal to different people. and I don't think it's a good signal.

I agreed with bro edder bro that hugging is native to a particular culture. When I meet ang mo kakis, we hug (applies to both sexes), to ang mo & middle eastern kakis I know better, we even kiss on the cheek.
Of course I wouldnt try the starhubb ad's ripping off the black dude's jimi hendrix T-shirt lah...

Hmm.
I honestly took a while to get used to the whole 'hugging' thing, especially since I had a few caucasian friends and a couple of relatives who have been exposed to western culture for most of their lives. I remember feeling so awkward and stupid when I had to hug my own cousin goodbye when she went back to England.
Then again, yah I understand that some people are wary about this whole hugging of strangers thing.. might be perceived as somewhat overly friendly to the point of being attention-seeking. I've heard other people bitch about their female friends being too friendly etc etc due to the whole hugging thing.
However, if the whole point and objective of this campaign is to make people feel better (as in those who really need a hug, not the despots) then it has my full support. I just may or may not hug anyone because I would feel uncomfortable, no matter how pretty a girl may be
