Need some help: greyish black dis-colouring on my les paul

i'm guessing yours is a double cutaway Gibson...? 8)
anyway, to address your concern:
1. do you unstrap your guitar before putting it in the hard case? if you don't, the finish is reacting with certain leather/ sysnthetic component.
2. feel the fur which is in contact with that specific area of your guitar- does it feel sticky? if it is, it's actually glue bleeding through & reacting with the guitar's finish.
3. another probable culprit is your guitar stand. Gibson's nitro finish has an adverse effect with majority of the stands' foam/ rubber parts.
do get back here & share if any of the above culprits is at fault.

the fur feels ok. No sticky feel.
I take out the strap when in case.
It appears first on one side of the body, then a little on the other side, and a little on the side of the neck.
I will leave it isolated form the the case, stand and strap for a while and see how it goes, thanks softies

k then its definitely the black fur lined case.
thats the main reason why gibson doesnt produce that case anymore due to that sole complaint.
if you take a look at any new gibsons that arrive in stores which still have the black fur lined cases, the guitar is usually wrapped in paper then placed in as gibson are finally aware of the prob.
the pink lined ones do leave alittle somehow after a long long time too, tho isnt really noticeable unless you got a white guitar.
newer gibsons now come with white fur lined cases to alleviate the problem.
