Hi all,

I just bought myself an Ibanez PGM3 (MII) and would like to change the pickups. Those stock INF pickups just don't do it for me... Was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on a good choice/combo of pickups for my new axe. I was thinking of having a Tonezone at the bridge and an evolution on the neck. Anyone with that configuration that care to share your reviews with me? Thx in advance :D

Model Name: Ibanez PGM3

Neck type: 3pc Wizard II neck

Body: Basswood body

Fret: Jumbo frets

Bridge: Edge III bridge

Neck pu: IBZ INF1 (H) neck pu

Middle pu: IBZ INFS1 (S) mid pu

Bridge pu: IBZ INF2 (H) bridge pu

Series: Paul Gilbert Signature

Hardware: Black

if possible as close to PG's sound as possible. Just not too sure how a evolution bridge will work on a PGM though.

If you don't mind "driving off the beaten tracks" I would suggest "Bill Lawrence"

they are fantastic (I have them on my main axe: an ibanez 540r) and are not overpriced...

I have the L500-L (humbucking) and the S280 (single)
great tone, well balanced, great harmonics

you have the choice between billlawrence.com or billlawrenceusa.com

the first one being the genius who came up with the original L500.
the other one is his partner who managed to keep the name (there was a trial)

the first one doesnt invest in marketing.
the second one gets his p.ups mounted on N4 (washburns) and Dimebag Darrels' signature axes.

my view is that the original p.ups look better and deliver this extra "pound" of sound you need when you play.

check the reviews on harmony-central.com :)

Interesting configuration. Are you planning to give up totally on fat tones for your guitar? Because a TZ in the bridge is not round and fat, and an Evo isn't a friendly fat pup whether in bridge or neck. What do you have in mind?

I will always recomend to get an amp. Even you've changed pickups, you'll never get the tone of PG. I believe you should know that PG is using a Marshall Vintage Modern 2x12 combo. You can never get that tone character with a small amp or with pickups changed.

In the past, PG uses ADA rackmount preamps & poweramps. Then switch to Laney. Now hes using Marshall Vintage Modern.

He used to use dual Tonezones a few years back. Now he's using dual PAF pros. Dual is the way to go! Haha

But if you want more versitality, mixing and matching should be better.

tonezone bridge Fred neck or

tonezone Bridge paf pro neck

u choose ... both sounds good ... fred more into getting some kindda les paul tone

paf pro focus more on dynamics ... but please dun blast the gain to 10/10 if thats the case it is really no difference using or not using the paf pro, yup2 thats my opinion

I thought PG uses laney amps?

he used to use laney. i believe it was recently like a year ago when he changed to marshall. i prefer a paf pro n a tonezone combo.
