Your favourite sticks

I dunno but some drummers just cannot use thin sticks... I picked out a pair of Pro-marks (I think they were 7A or something but whatever the model, they're real small) and I just couldn't play them. Its like playing with pencils.

Is it a common occurance of drummers unable to use thin sticks or is it just me...

But I find Vic Firths very heavy, but not as durable as Vater sticks. Ahead sticks... Outta question.

they say if u use ahead sticks
it would be hard to go back to using the usual sticks
why?

Probably because Ahead sticks have a very different feel from the usual wood sticks. Maybe it's just me, I couldn't get use to the feel of Ahead sticks when I tried them. It has less bounce and a heavier shoulder as compared to wood sticks. Maybe that is why those who have been using Ahead sticks can't get used to wood sticks, because wood sticks would have too much bounce (feels lighter too) for them.

What matters most is whichever sticks feel more comfortable to each individual, I guess :)

maybe during the meet up, i shoulda shared how i sniff my sticks :smt003
wasted...

i tink i jus get a high from wood in general. so ahead would definitely not work for me.

anyway i feel insecure with fat sticks, like i can't get a good enough grip. but i still practice with them once in a while tho...jus in case i die-die have to use them 1 day...

Haha snowflier is definitely not suited for 2B sticks. But as much as I like fat sticks, 2B is still too fat for me.

Doctors say being too fat is no good, how true.

Ok laaaame joke hahahahaha

i very safe one: vic firth 5A
they're just the most versatile size for me, cause most of the stuff i play drifts towards more pop/rock stuff. i do have the peter eskrine sig stick as well (heh). the one with the small bead tip.
and my friends were so nice i got a hotrod and a wire brush from promark for my bday!
i also have 2B for fun.

there was a period of time i was playing promark's studio 5AS (can't remember whose sig stick that is) but now i find it slightly too short. it is thinner than the vicfirth 5A but to me, not too thin haha.

i have huge hands(ask alfe) but small sticks dont really bother me...

i like promark 7As when playing for church
when jamming and rocking out.. usually vic firth 5A or Vater Studio 2

one thing with vater that bothers me is that the stick tears in the middle after doing rim shots... hahaha does not really break... but like tears and gives splinters... especially when i try to spin them

anyway the promark sticks are a little different from other 7As to me, one reason is because it is defitely more sturdy and has more body and vib when you hit the drum.. maybe its just me ...

yah damn BIG !!! *frightened*

i use vic firth akira jimbo (SAJ) it feels perfect for someone of my build, arm length and hand size

the right sticks make a LOT of difference, although i can use just about any kind of sticks, fat, thin otherwise... i discovered my touches are different when i used vic firth 5As and when using SAJs, given its less different than say 3As ( think the 0.5" length difference was the key) its best to find something that really works for you and "stick" to it (pun intended )

I noticed that very few of you mentioned 5B sticks... For me 5A is too thin and 2B is too thick and heavy... 5B sticks suit me the best and i swear by Pro-mark 5Bs... They have a good balance and feel to it...

I would swear by Vater 5B, just right for me. :)

I like 5Bs too, especially the Pro-mark and Vater 5Bs. Just that I haven't broken by 5As yet so yeah. I don't usually stick to one model...

I might buy a pair of 5Bs and 8As next as my two main pairs. Heard 8As are very good for metal, and 5Bs for rock.

i generally use different sticks for different situations and music.
if i'm playing in a small jam room, i tend to use light small sticks like the 6A or jazz sticks. if i'm playing rock on stage or watever generally 5A's.
really depends on the situation.

For me its the opp...I try to use the same sticks for everything and adjusting my playing to different styles of music....

Don't like the Ahead sticks after trying them too....totally not versatile...great for modern rock but its too "synthetic" sounding for funk, jazz, latin styles....still the good old wood sticks for me...

yeah wood's good, esp the tips. i like how the sound changes as the tip gets chipped or wears off, giving additional colours to our tone. although i can appreciate the consistency of nylon tips, guess i prefer dirtier sounds
