Your favourite sticks

no prob leh, marc. but i have not tried practicing for 2 hrs straight so... will let u kno again, when i reach that stage

snowy! u sure smells good???

haha! tama oak was my previous stick that i could really count on. and u wont believe it. i played it and got blisters , but that strengthened my hand in some way too. The stick also produces alot of vibration. Can withstand alot of thrashing still wont break. I threw it away in the end because it stank too much. =D

maybe its my hands sweat too much lol.

i kno, it's so frickin hardy i love it!! except when i accidentally hit myself.

uhhh...dun smell that end lah, gamby...it smells nice at the shoulder, where the splintered bits expose the fresh wood...naiiiii-ce

i also end up hitting myself with my sticks when i'm playing. hahaha its irritating and painful but when you think about it, its really quite funny.

oh cool!! so i'm not the only one dat hits myself. was tinking i'm either too clumsy or this is just a beginner thing that will come to pass...

yeh, my teacher thinks it's funny too

How enlighting! I have a pair of the tama jap oak sticks too. But I never really did smell it leh! HAHA!

Go sniff tonight.

I have a tiny blue black on my pinkie after I've practice with the tama japanese oak sticks. It still hurt now even though I stop using the pair since quite long ago. It could be that I hold my sticks wrongly. Correct me during this meet up if anyone see me holding the sticks wrongly alright. Thanks :)

snow, you really smell your sticks?

hahaha....

i got a tama sticks.. but not really sure, when and where i got it..
one thing tho, i dont use it now as my hands, but its own, reach out to the promarks 5A automatically when i dig into my stickbags.... hahahah
like real huh...

but seriously, i stop using the tama sticks long time, and if u ask me, i dont think i wanna smell the sticks... hahahahah

maybe snow got fetish wif drumsticks smells huh???

the thing about blisters, isit really due to the wood?
of izit due to the way you guys hold the sticks???
so far i havent got any blisters using any type of sticks....

the only injuries i sustains are cutting my own fingers and bleeding, due to the cymbals.......

Actually I used to get blisters until I was told to hold the sticks loosely. Since then, whatever stick I use (even Zildjians) I've never gotten a serious blister. And I'm quite hard a hitter.

I think it depends on how you hold your sticks. Not really on the wood, finish or size of the stick.

I kinda tried Zildjian, Vic Firths and Vaters and so far the Vaters were the nicest. The Vic Firths had nice feel but break so easily. The Vaters have a just as comfortable feel and yet don't break so easily so... I also like Pro-marks though. They have the best feel in my opinion.

Haha pro mark sticks seem to be very thin, although their feel is good. But i prefer the feel of big sticks in my hand, haha.

Nothing else but Vater!!!

promark sticks are thin?
dude, think you got to venture into different size sticks lah..

wat i know, all brands got different sizes cater to all different type of ppl...

promark 5as are relatively thinner compared to vics and vaters. i've got small hands. fits me well. in fact. all promark sticks are thinner than their other brand counterparts. for e.g. thinner 7a 5b etc etc.

actually, most sticks give players blisters. If held wrongly. Not really due to the strength used to play (although it does contribute a bit. )
When i was playing in my school's concert band, i always held my sticks lazily. i always find out after practice that i've got blisters on my index and thumb (where the stick rests on).
If you think about it, its quite logical. If there's space for the pivot point of the stick to be able to move, more friction can occur rather than holding it firmly in place.
Then you'll ask, "i hold my sticks loosely, but i don't get blisters."
the answer.... You've got thick skin.
or.... the pivot point on your finger has already suffered enough blisters till its nothing more than a lump of hard skin.
most drummers are the latter.

there are other factors contributing too. like the texture of the stick. I stay away from glossy sticks, as they might tend to slip more.
Slip more = friction.

My theory on blistering fingers.

and btw, I hit myself with the drumsticks too. though not very often. but there are times when you really say, "ah that shouldn't have happened"
there was once i let go of the stick in mid air after hitting a cymbal and the stick just flew back and smack me right on the face.

and I simply swear by LAZER 5A sticks. seriously, its LAZER, but i like it.
No fancy signature sticks (except maybe a mike portnoy one  ).
