all in one PC-laptop studio: the ulitmate music studio

Hey Bongman, I have your dream studio!!! :D

Mine would be - 10 PCs filled with samples and softsynths all linked by LAN for audio and midi.

My studio

I hope to have a studio in my house for recording n monitoring purpose in the year 2006. (Budget type but still very useful)

PC with a recording software (audacity is good enough bah...)
2 x power amplifier (freq resp 30-20k at least power 20W & 100W(for drumset))
8/4 Mixer (E8 soundcraft or Mackie)
2 x SHURE SM58 mike (wireless and wired)
Semi-accoustic guitar
Electric guitar
Bass guitar
Keyboard
Digital drumset
Mic stand
2 x music stand
neccessary cables of course

What do u all think?

it depend your size of your studio and the accoustic. If your studio size is small, u no need to use condenser mic. A dynamic mic sm 58 will be enough. I had tried before. The sound is as great as condenser mic. It really depend on what is your budget. :)

wireless 58's for studio recording? thats wierd...... unless u getting top of end wireless technology which still loses out to wired......

SM58's are mostly chosen for live situations simply for their durability, and because most mix engineers "know" how it will respond to different sources. For studio conditions however, small or big rooms, bad acoustics or not, a quality side-address studio condenser will make a noticeable difference over a dynamic. I've acheived good results using an "entry level" AT2020 ($180). Fact is, a dynamic mic's inherent response will not match that of a condenser mic, besides, condensers (in general) give a more accurate, uncolored sound.

just my 2 cents, all the best in achieving your dream studios!

my dream studio:

protools HD with the 24track controller
presonus firepod
yamaha NS-10 monitor speaker
mackie 24-8 mixer
yamaha SPX 900 (all the dbx rack if possible, hehehe)
behringer patch bay

as for mics

neumann TLM 170 R
sm57 x2
Rode NT3 (match pair for overhead)
some clip on condenser

yet to decide on the kick mic

a full drumset

imo neumann made the best recording vocal mic..... it realli giv u a super clean and clear sound.... although it also depends on the preamps u use..
