ok i have a 4-string squier p-bass with P-J pickups. the body's made of agathis. 20 frets and my teacher said use .10 gauge strings, but i have not yet changed the strings as they are still in good condition. as my current pickups are abit muddy (not due to the amps because different amps i use still makes it sound slightly muddy), i wanna change my pups.

what should i get to obtain the blink-182 kinda sound, except slightly punchier, like hunter burgan frm afi. my squier's passive, so no EMGs or whatever please. quote me a price for the pups, and the servicing please thanks :D

Want the mark hoppus sound? The closest i can think of is changing the p pickups to seymour duncan quarter pounder?

.10 gauge strings??!?!? ... those are already like the thinnest E string on an acoustic guitar ...

the thinnest you can find for a bass would be .30 or what ... that's the G string .. usually for piccolo tuning or what ..

ANYWAY .. yeah, SD quarter pounders will do well ... if not you can get the Kent Armstrong pickups from Guitar Connection ... or Bill Lawrence stuff .. have to ship .. but super hot output ..

..

while its good to change your pickups and stuff, i understand that you're still a student. do consider your folks who actually pay for your 2 basses.

from what mark hoppus uses, its a pretty simple setup. just get the same gauge of and type of strings he uses, and use the p pickup only. i shd think use roundwound strings, set amp treble and volume to high. stir with plectrum.

voila.

wad's output?

and do i have to change both pups?

you don't happen to be extorting money from your parents to support this right?? .. if you are i do not condone that ... 8O

go and do some research on pickups, even if it's a guitar pickup article it'll help alot. the best you can do at this point in time is to practice your playing and mould your tone from your playing instead of your gear.
