bert is dutch i thought . I was in PS but din drop by too bad
he kept mentioning he's not German, so I tot he is German.
maybe he is Dutch? anyway, already saw his other demos
on the Motificator website.

Did they mention whether anything else is replacing the PLG?
No, it was only mentioned that with the amount of sounds in the XS, it is eqivalent of having all the PLG sounds.

haha Bert is Dutch, and his NAMM demos of the motif XS were quite entertaining. did he put on the same performance at PS?

yes indeed, he's very entertaining; besides playing and answering the audience questions, he can joke with anything under the sun ... ...
the show is different from the NAMM.
I remember his demo video streams for the Motif ES where he still has his crown of hair, now less hair ... ... how time flies !!!

i was there as well. I happened to pass by the yamaha standee advert while i was on my way to the fodo court at PS for lunch. immediately boked a place becos i saw ber's funny youtube videos b4.

i tink his demo that day at PS is more entertaining than those on youtube...

the way he jokes about guitarists and bassists ..haha ..

Breath controller missing in XS

since we are discussing about the Motif XS,
something I found out recently is the 'Breath Controller'
connector is taken away from this latest Yamaha flagship.

Ever since the incarnation of DX7, SY77, EX5 to
the last Motif ES, the Breath Controller is part the
Yamaha feature.

I have the BC2 for the SY77,
the last version is BC3.

Now looks like with sampling technology,
one doesn't requires a controller to make
it realistic ???

A breath controller is still very important, even with sampling. There's something about blowing that's hard to emulate with the fingers on the mod wheel.

But my feeling is that Yamaha probably did their marketing research and found out few people are using breath controllers with their Motifs. And I'm not surprised. When I had my SY99, the only patch I used the breath controller with was the soprano sax (with additional programming and tweaking done) - all other patches didn't work well with it. People nowadays probably prefer the use of a wind controller instead of a breath controller. I would opt for a valve controller over a breath controller anytime.
