went to music plaza at PS today to check out the yamaha cs6-x and was pretty surprised that they didn't have it in their showroom anymore....

asked them for the price and they quoted 3k excluding importing charges for importing it into singapore..

hmm anyone perhaps know the reason for that?? asked the salesman and he didn't know either....

thanks for any replies! :D :D

S$900

someone was selling it for S$900 previously.

the cs6x is discontinued and that's why the price.
i'm not sure what's the retail price previously but
i know sure it's won't be more than S$2200.

i believe you can get the features of cs6xin the motif series,
go get a motif rack and you hv them all !

hi! thanks for the reply...

now i know the reason for the price...i checked out the motif series but the price was pretty steep(out of my budget)....wanted the cs6x because my friend got it for 2.5k 2 yrs back..so i thought it might have dropped a lil by now...but who knows....

might end up going for the jp-8000 instead....though i don't think its a keyboard that many people use to gig with?

gear

JP8000 discontinued as well
but JP8080 the rack version still available

you can get the motif rack instead of the motif synth

hmm jp-8000 discontinued?? just went to enquire about it @ swee lee on sunday...actually it was the jp-8080 that wasn't available @ swee lee as they didn't bring it in...

or are there other places that i could check out as well?? cheers..

not sure lo...

this i'm not too sure lo...

if you check Roland website, JP8000 is an archive product

JP8080 still in the current product list

ahhh okie...thanks alot anyway...

anyway....my friend was saying that the roland jp-8000 is not really a gigable keyboard...but more for production use...how true is ti?? any comments???

gig keyboards

I was about to tell you that the JP8000 has only 49keys,
and not design as a gig synth. You may use it as a second
keyboard but not the main synth. It sure has powerhouse sound
but not the bread and butter sounds. go do a search thru the net,
you'll get your answers.

it all depends on your budget,
here's the current list of gigable
synth with the basic bread and butter sounds:

High-end series:
Yamaha Motif ES series - S$3500 and above
Roland FantomX series - S$4000 and above ???
Korg Triton series - S$3000 and above

mid-range:
Yamaha S03 S$990 at Luthermusic
Alesis QS6.2 S$1400 at Sinamex
Korg Triton Le S$2200 at Citymusic
Roland Juno-D S$1500 at Swee Lee

another option, go for used gear - look out in classified ads.
you may get a out-dated synth at a rock bottom price,
eg. someone is selling a Yamaha V50 for S$400, then invest
in a good top range current sound module like the Yamaha Motif Rack
at S$1600. So altogether you only spend S$2000.

if you consider the above option good, you may want to buy
a midi synth controller keyboard (no sound on board) and
a sound module.

M-audio synth controller at Sinamex:
Oxygen 8 S$246.00
O2 S$250.00
Ozone S$580.00
Radium 49 S$290.00
Radium 61 S$422.00
Keystation 49e S$180.00
Keystation Pro 88 S$880.00

good luck, happy shopping !
