hi people out there , i recently bought an SG and i accidentally made a small little chip on its body. Im thinking of pasting some stickers or a plaster to cover up the chip such that people won't see it but will pasting stickers affect its tonality?

No dont think so, unless theres a huge chunk of paper there. Or maybe near the pickups area? But if its me, i wont hear the difference.

a small sticker will do fine. However do note the adhesive agent can seep into the wood. It shoulden't cut much resonance than say if you were to, paste a backstreet boys poster on it.

Not that it's affected my tone right now...but since your pasting one the size of your last fingernail...I don't think anything'll get affected...

your hard on pressing against the back of the guitar will affect the tonality more than any stickers will.

i guess his trying to say, when u sling up the guitar, the part of yr body which touch the back of the guitar body affect the tone more than the stickers

i never seen such a serious discussion on how stickers affect tone before

unsane: unfortunately, your sense of humour/sacrcasm is completely lost on the ppl here. lol

Depends on whether ur guitar is polyester coated or nitro ceullose (sp?). Nitro don't react well to alot of things esp adhesive so be careful.

Not unless you stick a whole deal. And even so the effect won't be drastic, it's not like you can really make out the difference either.

Paste a similar sticker (maybe just cut a small piece) to the back of your guitar and leave it on for a few days or a week.. it should be a good enough test!
Or not. :P

How would you know if you're guitar's coated by which one?

general rule of thumb:
1. if you're pasting stickers on your guitar, it probably isnt a nitro-finished one to begin with.

2. if the guitar cost less than 1k,it probably isnt nitro either.

3. if you're not sure whether your guitar is poly or nitro, its probably poly.
