Why you love or hate your bass?

I only tried and bought a MM3, but let it go already. Its not that bad, but its passive thats all. I am just assuming that the Levin is an active version of the MM3, Peach color and all..

The levin's bass at davis is not the peach one. it's the natural one if I nvr see wrongly.
Find the peach color a bit.... :p

But read review that the OLP tony levin's is gd for the kind of $$$ you r paying.
Quilt maple top with 3 band eq. attractive. haha
Thk musicman uses maple for the body but OLP uses Basswood
Thought someone might had given it a try and review it here.

Well, musicman uses alder or ash for its bodies, don't ever remember seeing a maple bodied one. They do use maple for the neck's though. :D

I've got an SX beginners' package

What I like:

1) It's cheap.
2) It's alder.
3) It's very customizable.
4) It came with an amp.
5) It's my first bass. MINE MINE MINE! ALL MINE!

What I dislike:

1) It has a weird looking single-ply white pickguard.
2) The three-tone sunburst finish. (There was only this and black, and black is so common/boring nowadays)
3) The electronics, pups are unclear and pots are unreliable.
4) It comes with a DVD that thinks I'm an idiot. Quote: "Play the open E string 64 times..." 'Nuff said.

Despite all my dislikes about it, they're all changeable. I intend to re-spray it to a cream/vintage white finish, and get a tortoise shell pickguard on it. I also intend to change the pups and pots.

Of course, I've rectified the problem with the DVD by chucking it away.

I wonder if it is more worth it if you were to get what you already want in the first place instead of making modification after buying it.

Well guess the DVD is for very beginners loh.

I watched a Beginning Funk Bass DVD and it is not really very basic loh.

Haha but I enjoy Abe Laboriel playing lah.

Cheers,

Ben

Hehe, I haven't really calculated the costs yet, but I'd reckoned that getting a Fender Jazz would not be worthwhile because being the itchy fingers that I am, I'd certainly want to "customize" the bass so I can call it my own. :D

So I decided on getting a cheap SX so that I can do whatever I want to it, without worrying too much that I'd be making a huge monetary loss if I screw up

I love my bass because ...

1. It's 14 years old and feels amazing
2. nice thin neck and plays fast
3. Swamp ash body is the best ...
4. I love my MEC pickups
5. The action is SUPER low ... my type .. =)
6. Nice stained body with a rosewood pickguard ... man .. all natural
7. Lightweight compared to my old SRX505 & Yamaha BBN5A
8. Literally no buzzing
9. i'm a jazz bass fan

I hate it because ..

1. the fret wires are worn out due to age ... so slapping isn't that shiok, but it's still shiok to slap ..
2. the wood is unfinished ... so all the dirt and stuff will go in ..
3. Wiring came loose for the electronics ... had to deal with the live wire going on and off for a month or so ...

I doubt i'll sell this bass ...

I like my bass because
- it has the sound i like
- its quite light
- quite versatile for a one pickup bass

don't like because
- wish it had more pickups
- quarter pounders are great at church or school, but not through my crappy practice amp

The solid colours are usually alder and the transparent and natural finishes are usually ash because ash has a much more defined grain. :D

As far as i know, it probably is like northern hard ash or smth, cuz people say that swamp ash is light, but my musicman with a natural finish is bleedin' heavy.

My main bass is a G&L L-5500

Love is because... it just fits. Fits my hand, fits the sound in my head. Fits my music.

Hate it.... don't really hate anything about it but sometimes I feel the B is a *little* muddy.

Hehe.. thanks bro. Just one more with my fat fingers...

Don't really have any more, didn't take much when I brought it back home from my mum's place a couple of weeks ago.

:D

Love the composition of your shots btw, hahaha, how does it play? I really need to get down to taking proper pics of my basses man.

L-5500. Only ever tried 2 in my life, and fortunately they are rosewood and maple! But strangely, to me, both are roughly the same, and very powerful! I like the sound, but only thing is the weight (bad back, too much carrying). Hi WooKie :)
