:D Hi guys,

I was wondering..

for players who use guitars loaded with single coils (SSS, HSS, HSH, SSH types),

What type of single coil pickups would you go for? or if you had to change them?

Any specific pickup models you guys would like to elaborate on too? Thanks

Oh yea, especially for Strat players, do you guys usually wanna keep the traditional Strat sound (hum and all).. or you wouldn't mind having rails or stacks in them?

Thanks and Cheers~ :D

Dunno bout others but I quite like the fat smoky sounds of P-90s.

Tested em on a Epi LP & they sounded fantastic.

Stacked coils... or rails.. but i can't choose both right?

I need the noiseless-ness because I play with high gain.

Traditional Single-coils, haven't tried a stack that sounds authentic to my ears. I run stock Fender MIA pickups currently. It's basically what you want from the pickups that matters.

As for noise, it's almost going to be a given if you run low output single-coil pickups with loud volumes. Shielding helps, so does introducing some form of noise reduction.

I have a HSS guitar, my single pups are samarian cobalt noiseless(fender), super duper quiet, clear/sweet sounding , i would say that i recommend it highly to anyone.... :D

seems like many players go for the noiseless solutions.. :D

i prefer noiseless too.... but i'm not sure whether i will regret if i changed my current texas specials..

cuz its like kinda losing the fender traditional sound... :?

anymore takes on this??

:D

The same question has been answered many many times. Perhaps so much people don't want to repeat again.

Try a search on the forum.

i did seach man... i always do before starting a new topic...

there are threads about pickups yes, but none dedicated to the single coils... :? ...

so i thought maybe i'd start one... cuz i thought it would be good...

the previous single coil thread was started by me too... it's about the SSS config and what pickups they use in all 3 slots... so its kinda different from this thread...

however, both ended rather abruptly... just seems like there are not much single coil users out there who have a say here... haha..

i would believe theres as many single coil user as humbucker fellas. But perhaPs the nature of the thread. Not much wanna talk about it. Afterall, its personal preference and after stating what they like, what wud be the outcome and purpose of the poll? Just imho.

Anyway, i love single coil, as bright, glassy and piercing as possible. All the hum and characteristic, i accept as it is.

For minor mod on those single coil(not too much into pickup changing), i wud prefer to change pot values, cap changes, push pull pot etc to get the most outta the strat which iam using now.

Anyway, recent changes i did on a strat was using a 5 way super switch and 3 push pull pot to do this mod and it has greatly enhanced choices of sound in the strat without any changes in the exterior look of the guitar.

There are quite a few actually, you have to search with multiple similar words and different terms... but I digress. It's hard to teach anyone to search well - when the results are not of quality to begin with. (And the search sucks too.) And few bother to look deep - but who likes hard work? (Except for a few idiots like me.)

Anyway, wrt models, expect few answers unless it's popularly used. Recommendations I can give though - SD Classic Stack (older) for surreal chime and chorus, but losing SC tone, SD Custom Stack for fat but still clean and authentic SC, DiMarzio HS2/3, depending whether you like low output or medium output.

I haven't tried any noiseless that sounded authentic to me - not yet. Search Bill Lawrence, Kinnmans, Fralins on this forum - or you can hop over to the SD forum at their website and read opinions there.
