Which Singapore IDOL do u like? Taufik, Hardi or Sezairi

Close this thread la... wth.
This is what i feel.
taufik:Can sing RnB. Dance well.

hady:Sing so so. but having him as a "big brother" on SI is really stupid. cause i feel that his advice doenst need lots of brains to generate that type of advice. I mean things like "Choosing the right song" and "Make sure u practice practice practice". Like come on man. serious.

Sezairi:Good musician. Cool and laidback tone. Did pretty consistently but fumbled just a little bit at the semifinals.

I admit, I DON VOTE. and that has landed Tabitha to be out in the Semis. o wells.

Stop it with racist comments yea peeps. This thread will be closed soon.(i hope)

Anyone remembers the Singapore Pledge? lol.

why are all three of them malay? not racist or anything so don't be quick to judge but it's a trend haha Young Malay Males that do RnB songs.

He was merely pointing out a coincidence, this could have led onto a civilised discussion about why these 3 dudes had in them that helped them to win. Instead, people chose to immediately turn defensive and throw comments which would only serve to escalate the situation. Now, this is sad.

Anyway i like Taufik, guess its because it was the only season of SI i watched :D

In this race issue, I think, if it's all three chinese guys who won, nobody will say anything.

Why all winners are malay guys? Simply because most people vote for them, be it chinese, malay, indian or others. Not because of talent or whatever. This is not Asia Bagus. This is Singapore Idol. It's a popularity contest.

Well, I voted for Sezairi, and he won fair and square. Don't see why people are so worked up about it.

I am also one who wonders why each and every SI winner is a Malay male. Does that make me racist or sexist? I think not.

To any offended Malays or even people of other races who take offence to the public creating such an uproar about why 3 Malay contestants won, let me say that at least 60% of the people stirring it aren't racist.

You see, Taufik, Hadi and Sezairi are all similar not only in terms of race (duh), sex (duh) but also their character on stage. Young, relatively attractive, sings pretty well, similarly humble on-stage persona, but if you ask me if there is any really defining difference between all three, I cannot come up with one. The closest I can get to is Sezairi being a musician, and having a little more funk up in there, but really, it isn't really defining. Defining would be like Adam Lambert and Kris Allen. There is a distinct defining difference between them.

The first 2 idols were, in my opinion and I am sure MANY others' as well, absolute clones of each other. I don't care what you think or what facts and statistics you might throw at me if you disagree, public opinion is public opinion. Facts and statistics don't necessarily change that.

Now, the general public's perception of this season's final was between an Eurasian-Philipino and 'another Malay boy'. Please don't take this as racist again, because I am not and insisting that I am would be quite silly. I am simply stating what the public perceived the SI final to be, for those who were blind to it. Having a mixed-raced female winner would be a change, and a change that was so highly anticipated and pushed for by the judges, media and producers of the show. Don't tell me you expect the viewers, especially non-Malays to complain about not getting this change?

And stop it with the no vote no talk bull, I pumped in 20 votes for Sylvia because she is SO HOT! and sings so well, but she lost nonetheless.

Answering the question though, my favourite of the three is Sezairi because he does have some good musicality in him. Seems like a nice guy too. Would I have preferred Sylvia to win? Hell yeah. Does that make me racist? I hope not. Is Sezairi good in his own right? Of course! Is he going to be any different from Taufik and Hadi? It's too early to tell but personally, even though I would love it if he was, I doubt he will be.

so let be the rest of idol winners to be chinese ...

so that no one wud say anything racist.. i doubt the malays and indians and other minorities wud mind or complain or wonder why bla bla bla..

anyway.. just waiting for a David Cook singapore version..

and...

....... (*cliche*) not be racist or anything (*cliche*)..........

Its not fair if its a popularity contest.

I agree with jskadiang that Sezairi won fair and square in the popularity contest. Out of the two finalists, I preferred Sezairi more then Sylvia, so I decided to cast one vote for him.
(Which makes me wonder why did I even voted when I could have used the 60 cents to get an ice lolly. Oh well, that's besides the point)

As for talent, it is subjective. One man's meat is another man's poison. Various people in the Top 13 garnered a lot of love and hate. Those who loved XXX most likely said that XXX had a lot of talent, whereas those who hated XXX claimed that he/she had none. End of the day, it is subjective, and left to the masses to decide.

Some people call for the voting system to be judged in such a way that the judges have a say. I wouldn't agree on that. The judges would then prefer to send in a person that they deem is more "marketable", not necessarily more talented. Ken Lim clearly favoured Sylvia throughout the whole competition, although at times she failed to impress people and she wasn't the most vocally talented.
The judges, Ken Lim in particular, also took a lot of potshots at the contestants NOT because of their vocals, but for their dressing, hairstyles, etc. These had nothing to do with talent, yet they were continuously ridiculed over it.

BTW, if anyone has last Saturday's Straits Times, read the Lifestyle section. There was an article on the "Formula of winning Singapore Idol", which I found to have a lot of dry wit. Interesting read

WAIT!!

I've got it. The reason 3 Malay people won the first 3 Singapore Idols is ....

Because the majority of voters tend to be young Malay girls and Malay people in general. Problem solved, close thread please.

Finally, someone with some sense. The Malay community looks out for itself and has the strongest 'kampung spirit' amongst all the others. They vote in the hundreds. There's nothing wrong with that.

There are similar trends in American Idol if you observe carefully enough. Every American Idol winner except for Jordin Sparks (from Arizona) has been from the American South. Kathrine McPhee and Adam Lambert were slated by the judges and industry experts to win, but were beaten by Taylor Hicks and Kris Allen- presumably because they didn't get as much support from their home states and general region. Americans enjoy greater variety all around because they are a much larger market and can support and sustain a wide range of sub-industries.

Also, there is nothing racist about observing a trend. Just because a group of people are identified as being of the same race means nothing apart from what you choose to make of it. Malays are under-represented in the Parliament and in the military. A large percentage of teenage marriages are between Malay couples. Malays are underrepresented in top junior colleges and universities, and overrepresented in ITEs. All of these are visible trends- pointing them out does not make anybody racist. A statistic is a statistic, doesn't mean anything by itself. Most of Singapore's millionaires, president's scholars and top brass in general are Chinese. You could go on and on. If you want to descend into vilifying and demonizing each other for daring to acknowledge and speak up about 'taboo' topics, be my guest. Perhaps one might prefer to remain ignorant?

I'm sure that's what most neutral observers are thinking as well. But they kept that thought to themselves in case some over-sensitive political correct zealots come barging in. ;)

Lol, I wonder if having a Singapore Idol of one's race balances all those inequalities out.

personally for me, sezairi has the coolest vocals among the 3 of them. his voice can fit in funky voice, not so low and bassy voice.

in terms of characteristics, taufiq is a cool awesome person. idk y but i could feel that he is very humble when he talks.

if about hadi, i think his loooks? not sure. from my female frens, they said taufiq is much more gd looking then hadi.

anyway, overall, taufiq the best. =) for me la.
