Which brand offers the best?

Im looking at around ~1k price range... prolly not anything exceeding 1.5k

Ive looked around and see Tokai, Edwards, Burny, Orville, Greco

But i dunno which one is more bang for buck.

Oh yeah i prefer solid black/solid white/brown to black flame top....

Could someone enlighten me where to find these guitars or try them out?

I would recommend Edward's LPs or you could definetly try Burnys. You can find Edwards at Davis, the price range is about 1k to 1.4k depending on which model etc. You can find Burnys at Yamaha going for about 1k onwards as well.

good luck in your lp search :)

Tokai and Edwards are the more popular brands out of the 5 you've listed. Edwards is the way to go if you're looking for brand new, Tokai for 2nd hand. Edwards has better specs than Tokai such as the long neck tennon, Tokai's variation is of a medium-long length. Despite this, many feel Tokais simply sound better, probably because most of their les pauls are made in the 80s hence the wood is given time to mellow with age like fine wine.

You're missing out on 2 other good brands ie. Epiphone Japan/Elitist models and the best kept secret - Heritage which comprises of the older more experienced staff from Gibson of Kalamazoo who preferred to stay behind when Gibson moved, ie. they are the ones responsible for the guitars when Gibson was still in its golden days.

Epiphone Japan and Heritage price range how much?

Are they rare? Coz im not into flying overseas to get my guitar.

But i heard of Heritage.... I saw one... it was... amazing.

G77 carries Heritage. Epiphone Japan, Burny, Greco are usually carried by orangeguitar.com. He's a softie here too so maybe he'll chime in.

I would not recommend buying a guitar online without knowing how it plays and flying overseas is definetly no for me unless your really rich or something.

Epiphone Japan and epiphone anywhere is almost the same to me. I rather get a guitar from Edwards or Burny. (nothing against Epiphone, i personally like epiphone as well)

As for heritage, you may want to check it out at G77 if they have any in stock. Doubt they have a heritage now do they?

shrugs, maybe a epiphone elitist? but more than anything else, its your tone, the one which feels like its at home when you play it, thats the one you should get :D

Midnight, if you say Epiphone Japan and Epiphone anywhere is the same, then following your logic it will mean that Squire = Fender Japan.

Epiphone Japan makes the elitist models exclusively, which in many ways surpass that of the Gibson regular production line models such as a better QC and more accurate specs ie. the les pauls are not chambered like how Gibson does its current batch.

Btw, orangeguitar.com is a Singaporean online shop so you can try out the guitars they have in stock. I see no problems with that.

i agree with almondx, elitist and epi are totally different.

there are elitist's that surpass the gibson standard, no offence to gibson owners and all alike. but the elitist is somewhat a holy grail of epi's if you will.

Best to check with them, there's a couple with them in stock last I checked though. It will be unfortunate if you have to order because recently the Heritage factory was involved in a fire and still struggling to cope.

hi ngjingming,

if you are interested you can find out more about some of the brand's history here:

http://www.orangeguitar.com/introlawsuitguitars.htm

if you are interested in any of the guitars in my site, please feel free to make an appointment to try it out.

in my opinion, all the brands you shortlisted are great stuff. it really boils down to personal preference at the end of the day.

Burny lawsuit models with the VH-1 pups, the closest copy of a 59.

Greco is also solid. But fr the newer ones, heard edwards r worth checking out

+1 to Edwards/ Tokai.

Tokais (Jap models) are definitely well made, they sound superb considering they use their in-house/ Gotoh electronics. unfortunately, these aren't readily available in the shops.

i'm with Edwards when it comes to singlecuts namely because of the craftsmanship + Duncans 8)
