dont think there's such a thing bro!

anyway i think it depends on what you're planning on playing

guitar

I'm guessing your budget is around 300? For 300 i would actually consider brands other than Squier or Epiphone models. The brand knight at woodland's standard value is something i highly rec you to consider. Alternatively, you could scout around soft's buy/sell guitar section for entry level guitars. However if you're dead on buying squier or epi i would go with the epi les paul special.

it all depends on your own taste bro..

alot of peopel has been asking question like whats better, the best and stuff.

seriously, in my honest opinion. its all about your own taste.

i might say the epiphone since im a big fan of humbuckered guitars.

another might say they like squire because of the twang of the single coils.

its all about your own preferance. what do YOU like?

i say you try both guitars out, play around with it
listen to the tone
are you comfortable playing it.
its all about your own taste.

another man's trash may be another man's treasure..

i prefer to play a strat.
but i love the design of a lp and the humbuckers.
so i got a H-S-H config in the form of JEM7V.

Or a HSS strat? A strat that has a humbucker at the bridge position. I prefer strats too because they're smaller and less bulky, but I'm not a fan of tremolo bridges.

Like the others said, you gotta try them both out and decide, though I'm slightly biased towards the Epiphone as I've never played a Squier that impressed me, though others might have had better experiences. For strats and teles, I'd recommend the Timbres at Standard Value.

i love a stratocaster's playability + weight. however i'm not so much of a fan of single coils. and i believe squire have better worksmanship/quality than the lower end epiphone (based on personal experience)

Well, I've played a $700 Epiphone Les Paul standard that had badly done bindings on the neck, and it went out of tune very suddenly. For Epiphone I would not say its the low-ends, but generally Epiphone's QC is very inconsistent, but then so is Squier's...

les paul and strats are different animals to begin with xD

see lor what type of sound you looking for, what type of music you playing and stuff.

im more into rock in the likes of bullet for my valentine or a7x?
which type would be better?thanks for commenting =D

I say, save up...

Me working my weekends off, killing my social life, so as to buy a new amp...

Don't later buy epi or squier then regret... Although epi's les paul standard plus is not bad (qc, no comments), and squier's tele deluxe (california, qc, no comments...)

QC problem, really let you QC yourself one... Easy enough to solve...

Generally, if you're looking to playing those kind of genres as mentioned(a7x,bfmv), get a Les Paul shaped guitar.

Alternatively, you could try superstrats with Humbuckers if you don't like the chunk of the LP's neck.

I'd go for the Les Paul Special II.
I used to own one a few years ago and it was a good guitar for under $300.
The body is thinner and flat compared to the traditional Les Paul bodies so it's very much lighter.
Thought of getting a Squier Strat, which was in the same price range, before I bought the Epiphone but I was so used to playing 22-fret guitars that the 21 frets on the Squier didn't quite appeal to me.
But if the Squier had 22 frets and SSH pickup combo, and under $300, I'd get it.

probably the HSS squier strat. much more playable. i think the QC for squiers and epiphones should be about the same.

Everytime I see a "which is better" thread, it makes me wonder if the threadstarter is someone who thinks that having "better" equipment will allow him/her to play better? I mean, if I dump a DeTemple into the lap of a beginner, will it make him sound better?

I don't think so.
