Where to setup?

Where's the best place to get a setup done for an electric guitar? What is the approximate cost? Need to adjust intonation, pickup height, action and all. I own a Santa'Fe strat.

i've heard that beez does a pretty good setup. is he in on saturdays? and how do i get to ebenex?

ebanex is at roxy square. just opposite parkway parade. right in front of the escalator. beez should be there most of the time.. could always drop a phone call before heading down

is beez, kc or malcom better in setting up guitar?

looks like malcom charges much more and i wonder if the setup
is much better?

we wont go into favouritism here.

setups are setups. i believe the tech's all are very proficient in their setting up.

its a matter of preference. there are things some techs do better than others, but thats a seperate issue.

Pls allow me to side-track a bit...

I say buy a book on guitar care then learn how to do the setup yourself. Quite a hassle to DIY but the intonation and action could benefit from periodical fine-tuning.

Give a man a fish and he is fed for one day. Teach him to fish and he could feed himself for a lifetime. :P

joshuak, i agree with u on that.... for the simplest stuff like setting up the guitar...guitarists should know how to do it themselves..its just the basics.....
..plus it saves money

All three of them are good.

just to add.

Raymond from Luther music. These 4 ive tried before and
they quote different prices , have different ways of working and are different people.

Try each one once and you will understand.
Just pick the one you like best.

hmmm... curious-ly.

I just find it odd that people try to be "nice" and not give a firm answer, which is better?

I really think there's a way to guage the better-ness of the setup-er but ah well.

Being "nice" makes one live long hor?

Anyway, to the threadstarter, the recommendations are given here ah, dun go off and go to some shoddy/dodgy person not listed here because they be cheaper hor... wait u kena some messed up setup.
hmmm, i think your guitar is quite an entry level instrument? If so, I don't see the point in going to Malcolm.

that's because who's better to A may not be better to B.

expensive is not necessarily good, cheap is not necessarily bad.

agree w chanmin, check them out for yourselves. those suggested have pretty good reputation overall, and with skills to boot, so see who floats your boat.

if poss, learn and try to set up your own guitars, cos with experience, you'll probably be your best set-up tech, save for more complicated stuff e.g. re-fretting. if you're just happy to spend $ and maybe save time tho, then go ahd of course. =)

Hey Dom,

you might wanna consider this - if you sante fe is a real keeper before setting it up. You might as well save up for a better guitar in the future imo.

2 days ago Malcolm did my friends MIA sea foam fender strat and it sounds like A TOTATALLY NEW GUITAR. Sonically stunning.

hey.. i'm a starter too.. was trying to fix my own intonation using a tuner, but the action's still too high... seeing these top 3 guitar set up pros, i wonder how much would it take to render these guys' services?

and malcom.. haha yar how much ah. he's a luthier right? the reverend guitar dealer?

the prices would vary according to the guitar you use. with floyd, it'll be more, fixed bridges will be less.

prices for setups range from 40 to 150+
