Where to mod my guitar?

Hi all,

I have a Squier '51, and i want to change the bridge to the ones with tremolo bar, just like the stratocaster. I understand it's not just replacing the bridge, but also need to make the cavity and all that.

I just want to find out the shops that have these services, and also advices from you guys in doin this. It really helps if you guys can give me a idea on how much it'll cost me. Really appreciate your help in this..

Thanks!

haha i've sent my telecaster to guitar workshop at bras basah complex.
im also putting a tremolo in it. should be getting it about next week. the people there are really nice guys btw. haha.

so you getting a floyd rose trem or just a standard whammy?

i guess its going to cost about $300 (parts and labour) there. could be more cos its really hard work routing and all. and it would take like 3 to 4 weeks?

i've heard people saying that you'll risk losing tone or sustain doing this, but im not too sure if its true. anyone know? haha

It will definitely sound different-_-'''
This kind of money cannot be stingy one... Haha. I still got a licensed floyd rose for my strat copy... planning to find my uncle help me drill hole..
I heard that if it's done wrongly, there's will be cracks on your guitar.

Thanks for the response guys...Wow, i guess there's consequences if i go on with the modding. Hmmm.. Any more suggestions or facts of consequences that i or we should know?

This is a call for guitar experts in soft!

Your guitar is a Squire, and it was one with a fixed bridge.

I would advise that you do not do this modification on your guitar. Your guitar might not be able to take the tensions created when using the trem, i.e., your guitar's neck might warp/snap. Maybe sticking to very low gauge like 0.009 or even 0.008 will help but such low gauge might not be the gauges you would like to play with.

With that money, I think it is better that you get yourself a nice guitar fitted with a trem already

I agree.

Calculate the cost for the re-routing/installation/accessory itself, and you would realise you can actually get another guitar with what you desire alrdy..

Unless you really love this guitar i suggest you leave it the way it is and save up for another with a whammy bar.

Thanks for the help guys.

I really love my '51....the look, the sound and the playability. It just needs a trem/whammy bar to complete my ideal guitar. Yes, it's a squier and it's body isn't as solid as a strat, that I have to admit.

I'll take your suggestions/advice into consideration nevertheless. Thanks for the useful advice!

Peace!

The mods all will too extreme .. either buy a strat or at very worst - get a strat body to use with your squire neck

...well.... I just happen to have a quier strat body in black ... available for sale ..... and also a wilkinson bridge too ...ahem .. hint hint :D

putting a floyd on a squier tele will probably not be one of the better decisions you'd have made in your life.

hows about the classic bigsby (you need to select and see what's appropriate) - at least it looks cool http://www.bigsbyguitars.com/fender_tele.html

or this new thingamajig

though unless you think it's crucial to have a trem on your squier, i'd suggest leaving it as it is and saving up for one of a thousand other guitar models with a built in trem.

sometimes it's best to leave well enough alone.

maybe somewhat off topic, but i have just gotten back my telecaster with a wilkinson whammy. currently using 0.09s provided by the peeps at the guitar shop. im planning to change it to my usual 0.11 . is it too much of a risk?
