hey bro, you can actually contact zack, a.k.a guitarhero on this forum. He has a range of modded pedals by himself. best known as GHmod pedals. i can vouch for you that his keeley ds-1 mod is MUCH MUCH creamier and louder compared to the robert keeley ds-1. (:

do pm him for his rates

Thank you for your very motivating feedback, bro!

I greatly appreciate you spending some time today to do an intensive side-by-side "test-drive" of my GHmod DS1 with Keeley's.

At the same time, I got to enjoy your relaxed noodling on your Wylde!

In all honesty, the very first version/prototype GHmod DS1 that I did (I still keep this one as my test vehicle) was pretty the same in terms of gain with Keeley's when I first did a side-by-side test on my own some time back.

The second version of the GHmod DS1 included a germanium diode in the clipping section of the pedal.

Marc (the guitarist of Eden State) used this version on Live 'n' Loaded on 03 Feb 09.

I have him to thank also for his valuable time and feedback. It was the result of his time-consuming and patient tweaking/testing of the settings and feedback that convinced me to remove the germanium diode from the circuit - it was too fuzzy for the DS1 although I use twin-germaniums on my GHmod MT2s (so does Monte Allums) and they work fine for that setup. But of course if anyone prefers the fuzzier version, it is an option that is always available.

Thus, the GHmod DS1 version that is now in circulation is the one that sports a noticeable higher gain than Keeley's at equivalent settings but is creamier tone-wise.

Still, the version that Marc owns has been customised slightly to his personal taste. ;)

Nigellum, I'm glad the GHmod SD1 is to your liking; I always have a GHmod DS1 waiting to push the Keeley off your pedalboard. :)

Perhaps if time permits, you could share your take on my GHmod SD1 pedal at your convenience - I love feedback; positive or negative coz it motivates one to improve.

Lastly, a parting word to everyone...all modders' pedals are different. I personally would not say one is better than the other. One man's meat is another man's poison. Go with what sounds good to your ears.

I always say "if it sounds good to you, it probably is".

Cheers!

haha no problem bro. im glad to be sharing with the others out there. i'm waiting right now for my ds-1 to come so i can come back to you for your ds-1 mod :)

Would be interesting to see how your modded ds-1 stands up against my MIJ DS-1. I enjoy it more as a booster though, it has that "chewy" feel that most modded ds-1s lack. Most modded ones have a powerful full sound like the keeley one imo.

Hi Ized bro

Actually I have also tested the GHmod DS1 side-by-side with my '83 MIJ DS1.

It's quite an unfair comparison actually because they are both good pedals but in their own league.

Modded DS1s lack the "chewy-ness" because most of it has been taken out as a result of the component changes which results in a powerful (full) sound. However, they do give that "in your face" drive that just jumps out of your stack (or combo in most common situations).

In any case, it all boils down to the tone you are looking for to play along to your own music.

If you're ever interested in a test drive of the GHmod DS1 with your own, you're most welcome - feedback and comments are most appreciated.

Cheers, everyone!
