Where to get mesa amps

=robboster

Wow thanks. But my current amp sux. u wont believe it. It's a peavey backstage amp 10w i guess. Hahaha.. U notice the 3 different recto has different watts which means more headroom for higher watts. U have more 6L6 and EL-34 tubes for more power and it has the multi watt function whereby u can switch from 100w to 50w ( dual recto) 150w to 50w (triple recto). Thats some difference i noticed, there should be more.

I wanted to buy a dual recto but the triple recto deals are seriously more than the dual and single recto are like none existent in ebay.

Good point, though the multi-watt function is only present on the new 2010 rectifiers... which means you gotta get it new. I was just wondering, If you use an attenuator on a 150W triple rectifier, can you make it work with a 50W cab without damaging anything?

robboster > Mine is a 2005 recto. Not sure about the attenuator thing. The cab im going to buy is a 120watt (2xV30 speakers) handling one. I wonder how am i going to power at 150watt. I cant buy a 4x12 cab.

LadyInTears > Wah how you know? Im not working there anymore. Just try out only.

hey guys, i have a vague impression that amps imported from countries which are designed for use with a 130v wall socket do not work with 250v wall sockets like in singapore. something to do with the transformer not suited or similar. but what exactly is the "problem"? amps do not have the 130v / 250v switch we find on computer power supplies right? haha

U mean you need a transformer? Singapore voltage is at 220v if im not wrong. My mesa is 110v if im not wrong. LOL!. Im going to bring down to one of the DIY shop downstairs my house and buy a compatible transformer so it can run normally. Otherwise it will kill the amp. :D I'm always confused with the watts and volts thing. LOL!. sorry i did badly for my physics during O's and im having a physics exam at 12pm later. :( (I did not retain fyi ;) ).

I wonder if anyone knows any amp technician in Singapore.

I cant find any one who will do the internal Power transformer thing. I will get the external one instead. only $45 :D

yeah tts the problem. i need a V30 speaker amp but each speaker is 60w. so 2x12 will be 120watts. Unless i buy a 4x12 but too loud n big. :( There's a marshall cab 150watt handling but it's T75 speakers. argh.. =( headache

Won't you kill the speakers if you plug an amp of a higher wattage into them?

does it work like that? i always though matching ohms was all there is to amp to speakers?

I'm not particularly sure about that, but if you think about it, an amp rated at 150W generates 150W of energy as output. If the speaker that is 120W receives the 150W of sound energy, where does the other 30W go?

I'm not sure if my logic is correct, but if it is, Shinodax's gonna have to replace his cab quite often... or perhaps try the attenuator thing :p

I notice the blackstar artisan 2x12 cab has the same spec as the mesa recto 2x12 cab. If mesa engineered the 120w 2x12 for their own heads. i believe i can use the blackstar cab as well. If not i will use 50w mode. cool part about multi watt. hahha

I thought the multi-watt function is only present on the newest models? On the Wildwood site only the 2010 dual rectifiers have the multi-watt function...

Hey guys i hope this will help regarding speaker wattage. From what i know if ur amp wattage output is higher than ur speakers, dun worry they wun blow all it does is that when u max ur output on the amp u will overdrive the speakers causing it to breakup naturally. This is a fave practice for alot of guitar players who love this tone thus pairing high wattage amps with low wattage speakers like clelestion greenbacks or alnico blues.

Of course if u want pure clean headroom u will need to pair high wattage amps with high wattage speakers but do take note that every speaker has their own characteristics so all will behave differently. Beside the speakers, they way u wire them together (series or parallel) will affect the speakers behaviour and the cab construction will contribute to the overall tone/sound as well! Cheers!

cool thanks for the info! I can safely purchase the cab without any worries. I guess i will buy a 4x12 in the future. No rooms for 4x12 currently. :-D

Do note that pushing speakers this way will shorten speaker life considerably and possibly blow them out. That's why the G12-65 was introduced, 'cos lots of players are blowing their greenbacks. Well, all this matter ONLY if you're frequently playing at close to full volume.
