Re: hi ppl noob here askin some question

Most local music-stores do sell practice pad at about 30 onwards. You can check out Swee Lee, Ranking, Yamaha, Drums Resource and others.

try DRMP in Excelsior Shopping Centre. Nigel runs the place and he carries practice pads, got mine from him. about $30+ if I'm not wrong.

excelsior is just at the corner of 2 buildings, peninsula and funan it mall. exit from funan it mall at the exit facing the fire station. turn right, walk. after the air-con coffeeshop there will be an escalator, go down the escalator. nigel's shop is just beside the escalator towards the right.

nigel sells a small practice pad at $33. and those strapped on thighs are $35 and $38 respectively, depending on the size. if i remember correctly.

hey ixora or anyone who can answer this..... What Pad you bought? I believe you it's either you bought the Epad or real feel at DRMP. So which one is the quietest?

:D
hey, e-pad have a few sizes 5' 9' 12'. according to nigel 9' is currently out of stock. e-pad have a very good feel..

Hey to me if you are really interested in drumming you gotta not just have ONE practise pad but d whole set! Assuming you don't already have a drumkit, you should consider a full pactise set. There are those which come with stand, pedals, etc so its just like a real drum set except each tom is replaced/drum by a practise pad (real space saver!). Besides stroking, you also gotta practise the independence of limbs, motion, etc... just my thots

Ranking sports got sell the whole practice pad set with pedal for $250, but it's Lazer brand. ....ooohhhh epads are hell expensive but very good i heard. lots of pros use that one. one single epad costs many many dollars!! Can add up to a drumset cost   can try to use phonebooks and mousepads instead 8) cheers bro

I've personally own and used Sabian's Quiet Tones before, its manufactured with a steel rim/hoop and have got real skins that are tunable, the setback are bouncy due to a hard backing on which the skin rests, also really costly, about $90 plus for a 9" or 10". The price increase with size.

I've owned and used Remo Pads, they have the similar kinda feel with the Sabian Quiet Tones, though the design for the bottom of the pad is different.

I tried the promark ones when I was working at a certain music store. Promark has got the Xpads and the rebounder pads, which are bouncy.

Then I found HQpercussion's RealFeel Practice Pad, which i thought was the best feel of them all. I owned, recommended and sold quite a lot in my earlier years of my business, which i kinda regret that I did.

When I found E-pads by accident, i was hugely skeptical anything would be better than Realfeel, anyway out of curiousity and for research purpose, i bought one from the manufacturer. When I returned to Singapore, I tried it and went from frowning to smiling. I decided to let some seasoned drummer friends try on the pad, and they end up asking me when I am bring the E-pads in.

I noticed what made E-Pads practice pads makes sense because of this term, resistence training.

Do you remember those days when we put weights at the angle of our feet and ran? What about our coaches bringing us to the beach to run on sand and water? What happens when we take the weights off, or start running on normal grounds? We "fly", don't we?

With this in mind, in my opinion, good practice pads should not be too bouncy that when we practice, we rely too much on the rebounce of the pads to give us the fake sense of achievement, that we can do our double strokes so well. How many of us can do fantastic double strokes on existing make or models of practice pads and snare drums but when we try to execute the double strokes on the toms, we mess up?

E-pads practice pads somewhat has got the dampened effect, it makes us needing to work on our wrists and fingers, rather than relying on the rebounce. Remember this is for practicing and training.

I know there are 2 schools of thoughts, one of which advocates the use of rebounce to help you work less but do more. That is valid but not when we have not trained on my wrists and fingers from the beginning.

I recommend this simple challenge for the curious: Bring down to my shop, any practice pad that you have, work on that for a mere 2 minutes non stop, then take a 5 minute rest, and then work on the E-Pads for the same 2 minutes duration. you will see the difference.

I treat you to a packet of Pokka Green Tea .... :D

Anyone who owns a E-Pad here, wanna share with us your experience with them? You don't have to be saying good things because i am here. I have pulled out products before because you guys gave me feedbacks and I will not hesistate to do the same with any product if they are not good for us.

Just to add alittle, not to back in a few years, there wasn't quite this many make and models of practice pads.

We used pillows and phonebooks to practice, ask the old birds, they will probably tell you the similar stories.

Nowadays we are blessed and fortunate to have good products to help us achieve what we want.

Bottom line, find a good pad and get to work! hehehe

initially i owned a real feel for the past 2 years. it has 2 sides the beige side and the black side. the biege side is quite bouncy and less noise, but the black side is not so bouncy but noisy. it's like playing on an acrylic sheet.

I went to DRMP, and tried e pad. i tried out the bounce test. the drum stick did not bounce. I was wondering. then purchased one with the knee strap on (so that can practice while doing my computer work). And I realised again that I've been palying the drums with finger technique and not wrists, and that's why my sticks keep flying all over the place.

Reeel Feel: can go fast with fingers. Epad: U want to go fast, got to play with wrist technique, then fingers. Epad, has minimal bounce hence it helps in really hitting the drums and really pulling the sticks up during upbeat, not relying on bounce. good stuuf in it's own right.

But I still practice on both pads. Epad quite quiet though compared to both.

I'm waiting to buy the bigger ones with base, so I can whack the bugger with my heavier sticks.

hey guys,
well i agree with the practicing on the soft pad to work the muscles and get them conditioned for playing. u also need to practice on a hard surface so ur hand and get use to the rebound and teach ur hand to control the stick. 5mins on the soft pad, stretch ur muscles then 5mins on a hard surface remember to stay relaxed, repeat this. my hands aren't as fast as they were but this is wat used to get them half way decent. the pad DRMP sells are good for on the bus kinda work cause your gonna piss off the person ahead of u if u bang away like that. is it just me or is there no freaking room on the bus for ur elbows when u do strokes. someones gotta write in to the bus service me, we dodgy drummers need to practice.

blurred,

Thanks for yur contributions.

You are certainly not the only one practicing on the bus, i would work on my legs very much like the toe technique, sawying left to right to get my consistancy. i would work on the left, work on the right and then both legs.

Believe me, there have been people looking at me like i was nuts or something, hahah

hey nigel!! i gave u a private message but i don't think u received it

btw i think i may drop by your shop to try the axis and e pads!!! WOOHOO!! haha!!

okok anyway since u didn't reply me, i'd ask u here
i went to your shop a few months ago. and u introduced to me this.. square piece of.. thing. i don't know wat it's called sorry. but u said it was very effective in minimising the noise from the hard bashing from my drumming. do u still have stock? i remembered u sold 2 sizes, wat are the sizes and how much are they? i need them urgently man..
