Where have all the good ppl gone?

Folks,

Allow me to pour my heart out for a bit.

Yst I msged a seller abt something I was interested in buying. Upon enquiry, this fella... not only was he grossly rude, he even asked if I would pay more than his listed price?!!?!

Goodness.

Who on earth does that?! Don't list your price if you are going to UP it when intersted buyers approach you.

I haven't been in Singapore for a while now, ppl on Soft all used to be so bro bro, you didn't have to worry abt ppl trying to con you. I guess since then the forum has been getting a new breed of idiots.

To the admin, mayhaps we should have an "idiot-filter" when ppl request to sign up.

Sigh....

(Okay that feels a lil' better.)

Maybe we are on to a new term here. A buyer may lowball you. This seller is trying to upball you. :D

Joking aside, yeah...no point dealing with such people.

to tell the truth, was eyeing on a lot of effects sales recently but never buy them. scares me when I see those scam/untrustworthy seller posts around. and when they're gone... :(

Technically, that's the definition of lowball, if I'm not wrong.
Use a low price to lull the buyer into a perceived commitment then force a higher price.

good people are still around, but most likely down on luck to meet some who arent good.

And seriously speaking, in these age, are we too naive to really believe that the world, society or forums like this are all good people?

I think while we dont go out to be a nuisance, it will be more logical to realise that theres imperfection around us and ready to ignore, move on wiser and handle things as they come.

imho

I've heard of people trying to lowball others, but this is really weird.
Which reminds me of one time I had that experience.
Wanted to buy a Squier Jazz Bass, seller quoted a price. When I msged him, he wanted to know whether I could afford to pay more, as a few other people were also willing to pay the same price.
I declined. I could find the same bass at the same price elsewhere or cheaper, brand new

call it naive.. call it me being anal... call it whatever you want.. but right there right then bitching was the all way to feel a little better after the con work from this ass. lol.

thanks for all the "i am here-s." Godspeed folks.

It's not really a question of "good or bad people", it more like "rich and poor people".

The rich can sell their gears off at a low price, and not lowball any seller when buying.

The poor tends to sell their gears at high price, and lowball others.

Times are bad my friend. You can't blame the poor.

there are tons of screwed up people on these forums, but unfortunately this is not the way to deal with it. the forums have been littered with complaint threads many times in the past. please don't make this a common practice.

there's nothing we can do now, so please close the thread.

guitarsan, yes, it's a shallow assumption about the rich and the poor. It's only a general statement, which doesn't apply to all cases. Someone drove a BMW to meet me at a carpark and lowball'ed me on-the-spot. Then, there's this guy who stay in a plain 3-room flat who sold me a great condition gear at a great bargain. :) So, yah, rich and poor don't apply in such cases.

I guess the trade culture isn't healthy at this moment. But let us improve this bit by bit. The fact that James kept this free classifieds service, we should all appreciate the effort, and not let bad cases spoil the culture. TS' complain is not all bad. At least we're aware of what's happenning.

The key is to create a good trading culture. We can set best practices for the classifieds, which need not be followed/observed by everybody. Those who follows the good trading ethics listed down will always gain respect from the rest. In time to come, you'll be known for what you did.

e.g. I had a successful deal with a nice guy some years ago. He is a long-timer in SOFT. When I was selling some gear recently, he responded to my ad, together with a few others. Needless to think, i contacted him, and sold him the item. :) Knowing that this person is a good trader, I believe I can trust him in future deals, be it buying from him, or selling to him.

im still here too!

good people? try a buyer upball u. u wanna sell cheap, he offer higher price. hahah. happened to me. one of the people in my signature.

Very true, don't think that the rich are generous, some are so stingy it makes you puke on the spot. As if their $$ will follow them to their graves.
