Internet i reckon most of you say.

Any particular site you visit very often and got most of the skills there?
I only have been visiting www.ultimate-guitar.com
Not sufficient enough man.

Think must buy some books also, will that help?

thanks

play by ear.

1. Replicate whatever familiar tunes you hear, this'll familiarize you with the fretboard.

2. Play what you hear in your mind- what every player should strive to do.

Ultimate-guitar has this video series which i think is pretty good for any beginner guitarist to start with. The lessons are simple and concise, very suitable for your needs.

Alternatively u can try hopping to www.cyberfret.com to check out the various types of lessons there, including techniques, styles, theory, bla bla.

What i would suggest is to buy a chord book, and learn as many chords as u can. Then head to ultimate-guitar to find the songs that u like and play them. Preferably in chordpro format. Get familiar with the chords, and the strumming style before we move on to the finger gymnastics.

That's abt it. Hope i have helped in some ways.

I went to metallica tabs dot net ... I think it has quite alot of practically theory lessons as well as is easy to understand ...

I started off with songs I wanted to learn, tabs off alt.guitar and the net and a chord book. Adding to what sub said, learning from trying to figure out songs goes a long way in helping you develop your musical ear.

I'd advise getting someone to point you in the right direction in terms of technique at the beginning. I had to unlearn bad habits I picked up 5 years in that could have been easily corrected earlier if I had taken lessons.

Most of all, I learnt off other more experienced guitar players who showed me tricks here and there and by just jamming with them.

"Songs i wanted to learn"

Yeah my first song i went to look was
http://ultimate-guitar.com/tabs/m/muse/unintended_ver2_tab.htm

I can finger pick 1 by 1 starting from VERSE part chord E until B7 and repeat.
That's all i can do for now.

I cannot do strumming :(

I believe tt song wasnt meant to be fingerpicked ;)

I'd suggest u start off with something simpler tt consists of only chords. Something which u can sing along and play.

What i started off with was U2's staring at the sun, and Mr big's Wild World.

If u are really hell bent on learning ur Muse song, then probably u need to get someone to guide u.

i started off learning playing metallica's master of puppets in sec one... using a classical guitar... that was the song that really got me into guitar... so many riffs in e, the idea is not too difficult to understand too, foundation is what your need

Yea. Same for me. Metallica's master of puppets got me playing guitar. Wad really kept me going was to play master of puppets and the solos. Actually, just try and keep yourself motivated, practice and try and learn different kind of stuff. As for me, I realised I couldn't pick up master of puppets that early so I started off with something slow like the reason by hoobastank. And yea, try and get a chordbook so you can look through different chords and their patterns.

Hope I've helped. :)

Finger picking means using your fingers.. without a pick; the finger replaces the pick, heh.

Generally for beginners... Learn the main few chord shapes ( E D C A G ).. learn to alternate pick effectively (even if you want to economy pick later on you still need to know this)..

Alot of chromatics... 1234 1234 1234 1234 1234 1234 on each string.. Builds strength and such, very important. Still do them now..

Why the heck does finger picking change to loving o_0

Oh maybe i'm doing it wrongly lol.

The video plays with pick, but i play the song with different way mah -.-
Think i'm wrong la, but then that song quite slow already hor, i use pick still having problems.

Yeah mentioning alternate picking, need to really focus on learning upwards one.
Oh like to ask usually when you first start off, does choosing which type of picks very important? I dont know but ive only used the one provided with the yamaha package lo. so nv really had a chance to use more of better ones, if they are different?
