What's in your VSTplugin folder?

 Ha,ha! I WORK in this line, I dun do pirated stuffs!
Need to get to my office to check my list of VSTs, am at home now.
But it's stuffed with mostly Computer Music/freeware stuff that I try. List goes on and on. Perhaps can do screen capture of the list. Otherwise can get "finger cramps" typing all the plugins.
Only thing is still trying out all those stuff - not easy when working at the same time, eh?

Can you recommend any auto arpeggiatic type of VST that does "straight forward tempo-sync-able" arpeggios?

VST only for Cubase?

need FXpansion to run VST plugins in other DAW

no VST plugins so far, downloaded some but can't use in Pro Tools environment

No Bongman. VST is for all PC DAWs except Protools which uses RTAS. Caekwalk used to be able to use only DX in the distant past but got passed that stage and also accept VST.

I find out that having too many VST plus-ins that is not doing anything sometimes causes problems to my DAW or when I'm launching a VST. So I remove those that I'm pretty sure I'm not going to use. Also there's always the fear that the VSTs may have compatibility issues with my Gigastudio. So I only use free VST that enables me to download the .dll files (so I can copy them durectly into the VST folder) instead of .exe file. Don't want to mess up my registry.

OK. My folder - all license-free ones:
1. Arpy
2. Claw
3. Crystal (everybody has this, right?)
4. Fortune #1
5. FuzzPlus 2
6. JOYkiller
7. kARMAkiller
8. LOVEkiller
9. Mini_DiZi (from chineewinds)
10. Mini_ErHu (also from chineewinds)
11. Motion 2.8
12. Phadiz(P)
13. phatmatk
14. ReZ v2.0
15. RidiculouslyRed
16. String Theory 1.5
17. Texture 1.2
18. The Box
19. The Shepherd
20. thingumajig
21. Tubeamp (not a VSTi, obviously - an effect VST plug-in)
22. XFortuna

Having said that, I don't use them very often since I'm mostly sample-based.

qfactor, one of the above I have has an arpeggiator. Can't remember which one since I don't use it often. Have to try them out and see...

The one person's list I want to see is lowjk's!!!

Bongman, if you do a google on "free RTAS plug-ins", you'll end up with a huge list! However, do beware. Some plug-ins although free, can crash your system due to poor programming. So you have to try them out and if it doesn't work well, or if you don't like the sound (and sure you're not going to use it anytime in the future), remove them.

Is there a free RTAS-VST bridge?

heh . cheez. i finally bouht ewql plat and xp , ra, colussus, symphonic choir, stormdrum :D... all these for my new studio im upgradin currently. the ewql SO plat and xp i bought at half price, they had a 100 piece special ! i quickly grabbed it

Ahhhh tera!!!! How could you!!!!! Better hold on to them - if I visit your place one day, they may disappear!!!! That was one heavy investment friend! But I believe it will be worth your while - keeps you on the edge for at least 5 years. Wish I had the money to upgrade. Just got RI as well, not the new RA since I'm using Giga. I couldn't resist the price - orginally around 500USD - now clearance at 19.95USD (esp when RA came out). Not as much as RA, but adds to my Ethno World.

Now that you got these, you owe us new pieces composed with these libraries!

hehe cheez, yep. gimme time, im totally revamping my studio into a project studio haha.. heavy investment i must say  i plan to recover them in 2 years haha..

Recover in 2 years!!!! That's very ambitious, considering you are also undergoing hardware upgrading, I presume. The software already cost you several thousands USD.

Bongman, RI is East West Rare Instruments. This is the predecessor of RA. Actually, RI has many of the instruments in RA except that: it does not come with build-in sampler (which I don't mind since I'm using Giga), and it's in 16 bit instead of 24 bit, which I don't mind either. I'm always snooping around for clearance sale. Have to be quick because they usually disappear quite fast. One of the other clearance I got is Percussive Adventures - usual price around 300USD and I got it at 19.95 USD. The other I got was Spectrasonics Metamorphosis - also ridiculously low price (when they came up with their new RMX engine). Price usually drops when new technology appears. So keep a look out! I was waiting for Smart Violins for many years - because of the high price. Then one day it went into clearance (less than 20 GBP). I waited for 2 days, and it was gone. That was one big disaapointment. Smart Violins is one of those libraries that lets you do amazing string scalic runs in various arrangments.

Giga converts Akai seamlessly. My Percussive Adventures and Metamorphosis are in Akai; so is my Symphony of Voices (Spectrasonics - no discount here). Giga cannot convert Roland. But there are conversion software that can convert literally any format into any format. However, it's always better to get samples in the format of your sampler because they will contain more complex programming. Percussive Adventures and Metamorphosis are loop based and so there's not much complex programming that I would lose out to - so I didn't mind it in Akai. There is no giga version for Symphony of Voices, so I had no choice in this case. All my other samples are in Giga format.

haha thats cool cheez, i said wrongly just now, i havent got my stormdrum LOL. typed in a haste. im actually waiting for SD to reduce in price when SD 2 comes out man.. then maybe i'll get them both together hehehe... yea 2 years.. to recover about abit less than 20k. not very very ambitious, i already recovered back 1.4k from an arrangement job ;)!

Hi ALL, thank you for the info.

too bad I missed the 'Spectrasonics Metamorphosis' sale,
so is it good to buy only audio loops or with other formats?

Pardon me, I'm more of a band player and synth user, not so much
of a sampler user. currently I have akai, emu and roland samplers,
so will buying only audio loops be good enough ?

Tera, you need to factor in that you need living expenses and other things other than work I guess. If you are not married and have no kids, then perhaps it's easier! Well, good idea to wait for SD2. I thought there is no need to get both. Isn't SD superceded by SD2? By the way, if you have Kontakt or Giga, you should check out SAM's True Strike 1 and 2. http://www.projectsam.com/. East West is not the only samples and they although good, they are definitely not always the best. There are already quite a number of others that cost much less with excellent true legato samples that's equal or better than EWQLSO - but require softsampler player instead of EW's build-in.

Bongman, Roland only reads Roland. Emu reads only Emu. And Akai reads only Akai. They may or may not read wav - you have to check manuals since I'm not a hardware sampler user. But Akai/Emu/Roland samples are usually the cheapest and definitely in the clearance since nobody uses them anymore. People are using either Kontakt, Giga, Halion or EXS24 (ie software). The 2 places to keep track of clearance sales are www.soundsonline.com and www.timespace.com. They have a link to their clearance sites. Keep track since it changes once in a while. I'm expecting a few other libraries to hit the clearance within this year, some of which I've been eyeing for quite some time. By the way, I got Metamorphosis from timespace, not directly from Spectrasonics. Definitely a good buy as it has some crazy loops and unusual ambiences in there. I think it's sold out already.

yo, thank you for the info again. I just got some clearance stuff last nite from soundonline.

I still use hardware sampler becos I missed out on the bangwagon few years back and since I'm only a hobbyist, I just meddle with them. of course currently to do pro work is to use software.

hehe cheez, yep. gimme time, im totally revamping my studio into a project studio haha.. heavy investment i must say i plan to recover them in 2 years haha..
yo Tera, your demos very good !!!

Hi Cheez, I think after checking out the sites, Metamorphosis still avail. in 3 formats - audio, multi-formats and SAGE formats.

watz SAGE anyway ?

Bongman, SAGE is their new engine. Metamorphosis is still avaliable, but no longer available in clearance. You'll find them selling it at their original prices.
