perhaps you can check other websites.. UG contains reviews..
these people would write down the wood their guitar is made of..
if its inconsistent check other reviews and webbies..

silvertone SG copy eh.... i had it before. the wood is basswood.
It's the most common wood used on budget guitars. Correct me if im wrong =]
Peace.

Just a question, esp for newbies who've just gotten into this hobby.

If you know what wood your guitar is made of, knowledge aside, would you be able to play better?

no lol.
imagine telling eric clapton that his guitar is made of basswood. then he start playing like a 6 year old. that never happens lol.

i say =3 so what if its basswood or even chipboard. Techniques and practice first, quality of guitar used builds up overtime when one gathers experience like RPG GAME!! =]

Dont think it's made of basswood, normally for a budget guitar is Agathis or Hardwood and harwood is inferior to Agathis. Agathis looks lke mahagony but it's not.

Basswood is normally for mid entry to high level depending on the grade.

Actually the most common wood used in budget guitars is agathis but nowadays brands like Ibanez have stopped using agathis altogether. I don't think Timbre and Squier use Agathis either.

Now Ibanez's gio-series are mostly basswood, like my GSA60. But basswood is also used in some mid-range guitars as well because of its comparably good sustain. But its low-cost might make it the future of budget guitars.
