What Picks to use?

What picks do you all usually use for a more all-rounder playing? e.g. fast picking / strumming. For e.g. 2.0mm Dunlop Tortex

Well, I'm looking for a pick which I don't need to swap on stage for different type of playing, don't know is there such thing. hahaha.

well, for my opinion i think the kind of pick you used should suit your style of playing. like me, i used a 0.65 dunlop tortex and i use that pick to play all genre of music. so i think its mostly about you..haha

its pretty much up to your own preference, and how comfortable you are with the pick.

i used to use a jim dunlop 1.5mm(the solid light purple ones,)

but now i prefer the 2.0's and the 2.0 Big Stubby picks for mainly everything uh,

I've 2.0 Stubby (the mini ones) It's pretty smooth for fast picking as well as strumming but I think the sound created is not as clear as normal flat picks.. I'm now using 2 picks, swapping around. 1 is tortex 1.15 for alternate picking and down picking, 0.53dunlop glow in the dark, it's one of my picks, but I find it most comfortable and clear when strumming / fast picking.

I understand what you mean.. but I'm just looking to see what other use.. maybe I'll try out. Haha

i have Alice to help me out (it's < 1mm, but it's metal) 8-)

but i still prefer my Stubby 2.0/ 3.0

I use medium picks... Between 0.70mm to 0.80mm, hard plastic. I prefer celluloid or tortex. Currently I'm using Dunlop purple. I generally use smaller picks for electric and larger picks for acoustics, but I switch over here and there.

haha worse comes to worse, use fingers :D try from 0.70mm up to maybe 1.14mm all the inbetweens. can find quite a few that might fit your needs.

For me, there is 2 types of gripping.

Lose and tight (don't you think elsewhere)

So yes when i am strumming and i dun require any intense strumming sound, lose grip applies automatically. When it comes to picking, most of the time i am picking with tight grip. Oh but when it comes to playing things like sweeping, it's normally lose rather then tight.

Anyway i am using Planet Waves .91mm injection molded picks. Not very durable but most of the time i pick light, so it's ok. Anything thinner will result in floppy picks that don't response to you when you pick fast. Anything thicker will not really strum smoothly even with a loose grip.

I've also tried V picks before and i do like it.You'll really hear the tone difference and the smoothness each time you hit the string.(the edge are unlike normal picks, they are beveled) But it's not suitable for long hours playing to me as the pick is seriously too thick for my fingers to handle. If you are conscious about tone, give that a try.

Stubby is quite all rounder actually. but because of the curve sides, it doesn't give a very clear tone compared to a regular flat face pick. I haven't tried Jazz III before, I think I will get Jazz III.

Jazz IIIs were the best picks for shredding I've ever used, but they became a major pain in the ass for pretty much everything else. As for V-picks, I have one and its a great all-rounder pick. But I don't use it that much because it eats up my guitar strings' life faster than any of my other picks.

I'm a die-hard medium pick user now. I'm probably one of the few metal guitarists who use picks thinner than 0.80mm.

I used to use Jazz III's...Now I use the Dunlop 1.5mm Sharp Tortex ones...Good for speed, but if you are looking to strum and do everything, you might want to try something thinner...Maybe .88mm?

i use stubbys 3.0mm. I find they're really good for picking and pinch harmonics coz they're quite small. for strumming on electric they're quite good, for for acoustic i would use a softer pick
