What kind of screamo songs do you like?

Anyway a lot of post-hardcore bands nowadays employ screaming in their songs now. So the genre is kinda synonymous with the term "screamo" nowadays.

Quote me if im wrong, but post-hardcore = clean singing + screaming.
Most people have the misconception that any songs that have screams in them = screamo

Oh really?

To idontreallylikepapayas: Really? Hmm... Then Last.fm must be wrong in their genre tagging. Because when I typed in "screamo radio" into the tag to listen to online "screamo radio", up came out so many post-hardcore bands' songs as well. But the thing is, I guess if many people keep using the wrong term or wrong tag to a kind of music, then over time, the genre or tag becomes bastardised and the origins are no longer known. But then again, if it is used sufficiently frequently enough, then social norms will allow it to be accepted, just as is the case with "screamo" being wrongly associated with "post-hardcore" nowadays.

Imo i prefer songs wif screaming n singing in it. 1 great band i think is Alesana. It was only after listening to their music did i really begin to embrace this type of songs. Other great bands would be Blessthefall, Silverstein, Escape the Fate (now has a bit of screaming wif Mabitt joining them). I feel that people should not bother about all this talk about the differentiation between genres as good music should just be appreciated according to the band/artist.

one of my favourite bands has to be trivium. they're a relatively young band and constantly improving... i think that they're quite versatile as well, being able to scream and sing well... and to synchronize it all nicely (compared to the trivium of the past.)

Thank you! Thought I was the only one who's irked by that common misconception =P Anyways I'll settle for screamo like Saetia, Yaphett Kotto, City Of Caterpillars, Hot Cross, etc. etc. Easier said, I'll love anything put out by Level Plane Records.

On a side note, definitely check out Naiad and Nature Living.

Oh... I miss the days of bands like old Hopesfall (No Wings To Speak Of was an awesome EP and may never be matched IMO.) k... I'm done rambling =P

yea right on. thats why they call it 'real screamo' and 'skramz' now ha. screamo kinda lost its real meaning with all the mistagging.

Will definitely check them out.
I love Circle Takes the Square(dual vocals ah......) Even though they are really popular now, they are still good. Check out As The Roots Undo.

Screamo or not?

To idontreallylikepapayas, I totally agree man. Now there's an even worse bastardisation of "screamo" actually. It's called "crunkcore" and it makes me wanna punch somebody. They combine rapping and screaming and, voila, out comes a new genre. This new genre is totally irritating and I can't believe that Last.fm tag it as emo. For details on how "crunkcore" guys dress, check out yourscenesucks.com. It's totally hilarious, the description of the categories of different styles.

Whoa Saetia, Blessthefall, Circle Takes The Square and Trivium are all amazing bands man. Trivium's "Anthem (We Are The Fire)" is just sick. I love that song! I do know however, that Saetia and Circle Takes The Square are the true origins of "screamo". Blessthefall is the more contemporary version though. Just wondering, is Underoath considered "screamo"? I think so right? Because their style is somewhat quaintly similar to Blessthefall so it makes them of the same genre.

To strykerxd, I quite agree at times that good music is good music and that genres aren't really that important. However, the occasional tag is to prevent confusion from arising about a type of genre. Imagine rap being associated wif metal! That would be hilarious, don't you think?

Lastly, to Santa, I don't really get what you're saying. Do you prefer full screaming songs or half-screaming, half-singing songs? Neither isn't really an option here you know... =)

Neither blessthefall nor underoath(present) is screamo. I see many popular bands like escape the fate, our last night, saosin, tdwp being tagged as screamo but they are actually not. They are either post-hardcore or metalcore.

Hmm, how do I define screamo? Hmm it should sound like a mix of post-rock/ambient and screaming vocals. Okay, I suck at describing, so you guys try to hear the difference between these two bands.

Blessthefall(post-hardcore) vs. Amanda Woodward(screamo)

Hmmzz...

To idontreallylikepapayas, haha so you're saying that those taggers are noobs then? =) LOL I'm rather confused right now though. What one site tags contradicts another site. This is all very interesting. But then again, good music is just good music, so there's no real need to be so particular about genres and tags, don't you agree? By the way, have you checked out yourscenesucks.com? It's really hilarious, the way they describe and stereotype scenesters. The "screamo frontman" is actually the vocalist of Blessthefall and the "porkpie" guy is Patrick Stump of Fall Out Boy. These are just two of those that I know. The rest may be based on other vocalists or band members too. Thanks anyway for your references. I will definitely check out Amanda Woodward.

That shows what the masses think is right may not be so. Or mass ignorance, I would say. Actually genres do matter, if not how you gonna tell from iron maiden and burzum? Both are metal but they belong to different genres of metal, and their sounds differ greatly. Genres make the search for bands with a specific sound much easier.

Ha yea yourscenesucks, alot of those stereotypes can be found in sg, I have never seen a Juggalo here in sg though.

anyway back to topic. i'd recommend trivium. check out their latest album shogun and youtube their live 2009 performances. shit blows me away everytime.... they just keep improving and stuff. great clean vocals + screams and even growls. ;)

Yeah but at the same time, I don't really think that one should argue about genres to the point where people actually get flamed online by others who don't agree as seen all too many times on the internet. That's really to the point of immaturity.

Haha crabcore is funny. Really retarded LOL. Oh and there's christcore where the guy is Aaron Gillespie of Underoath. I don't really know how Juggalos behave though...

I haven't really had the chance to check out Trivium as I just recently only finished my 'O' Levels though. Hope to get 10 points heh. Will definitely check out Trivium thanks.

agreed period.

Oh! i like full screams if not, growls and pig squeals are good :) i find half singing-half screaming averagely okay for me..

Haha for once there's someone (crajche) who actually goes for full-on screaming songs. Not that I'm biased towards full-screaming songs, but it's nice to have a bit of diversity once in a while.

Okay ShitonKnees, Christcore is actually a sort of sub-metalcore genre. But don't pay attention to yourscenesucks' labels. They are merely there for sarcasm and laughs.

Hahah, its quite difficult to define scream for me either, all i can say is that real scream points towards bands such as those black metal bands e.g Behemoth etc, thats a real scream which involves inwards, outwards, growlings whereas the post-hardcore screamo bands such as blessthefall, Escape the Fate screams in a kinda low tone of scream which sounds like they're forcing their throat to scream. The ironic side of scream/screamo is that screamo bands(post hardcore) are looked down by the scream bands(Heavy metal, death metal) stating that they're bringing down the scream's reputation of real scream thus changing it into their own generation of scream(post-hardcore) based on what my friend said who claims hes a metalhead in someway, pretty ironic ehh since they're still classified under scream but still i enjoy screamo bands particularly Escape the Fate.

Check this site out for more information on how these bands scream.
