What kind of screamo songs do you like?

I'm curious to know, what people prefer when listening to a song with screaming in it. Do you prefer those where the vocalist screams for the whole song or those where he screams AND sings during the song? Give your comments and replies here! I'm trying to find out the preferred choice of people here so that when my band gets started, I can cater to a wider audience. Thank you all!

imo, you should just play to what your band prefers. but back to topic, I kinda like those with both screaming and singing.

Okay...

Okay yeah zamir666 i got what you mean. Anyway my band is quite okay with experimenting with either style so it's quite alright with them. Thank you both zamir666 and theusedrocks for your replies. I'm still awaiting many more from you all people out there! Scream on!

actually i feel either way r fine but yea screaming n singing together r great as dis shows versatility of the band or the vocalist himself most importantly is of course what the vocalist is more comfortable with :)

Haha yea...

Woah thanks you all for your great replies. Yeah I love all the bands you all mentioned. I totally agree with yoruka19 that a vocalist who can scream and sing shows that the band is much more versatile. However, neuro182, in Saosin, I find that Cove Reber seldom screams though. He sings most of the time. So far I only heard him scream one verse and that is in "Lost Symphonies". Care to refer any more Saosin songs with screamo? I'd appreciate it. The vocalist in Blessthefall vocalist screams all the way doesn't he? I thought the singing was backup from the guitarists? Haha LOVVESdrumming I totally love Underoath. They're my favourite band. Spencer Chamberlain totally owns. But he doesn't sing much. Only one or two verses at most in a song. Most singing is from drummer Aaron Gillespie though. Anyway there are also some Underoath songs with full screamo though. Check out "Returning Empty Handed" and "Everyone Looks So Good From Here". The way Spencer does it is unbelievable. But the older Underoath songs when Dallas Taylor was still with them and they did Deathmetal were full screamo songs.

Looks like the unanimous choice here in Singapore are songs with both singing and screaming. And that's a good thing cause luckily I can do both haha. But I can't scream for extended periods of time unlike Spencer Chamberlain of Underoath or my throat will go hoarse and I will lose my screamo voice. How do I train so that I can scream for minutes on end? I know singing warmup helps. And drinking water or lime juice helps a lot. But is there anything else I can do to improve my screaming duration further? I really need all the help I can. Thanks.

Keep screaming people!

Oh haha...

Oh you meant Anthony Green? I know there was a temporary vocalist in between when Anthony left and Cove Reber joined. What was his name and which band was he from? I know he was from another post-hardcore band that was pretty big at the time. I just went to check out heard "Seven Years" and woah, that's nicer than "Lost Symphonies" man. I prefer Saosin's older style. Thanks neuro182 for the song recommendation.

Seven Year with A.Green is pwnage. Cove Reber added a new feel to the band which was good as well.

You are right in saying they had a temp vocalist/screamer during their Warped Tour when A.Green left. His name is Philip Sneed, now a guitarist/backup vox @ Story Of The Year.

You should check em' out too. Great stuffs. Many people have forgotten Atreyu, also another screamo band.

i like the acoustic versions of screamo songs.
no screaming, just singing.

neuro182: Atreyu isn't really screamo, these days anyway. To me they're verging on hard rock yet very metal-ish.

Huh?

Haha zullio acoustic versions of screamo songs don't really qualify as screamo songs though if you put them on their own. Cause mainly here it's about screamo songs with or without singing. But yeah there are indeed some acoustic versions of screamo songs that are nice. Like "My Heroine" by Silverstein. Shane's vocals sound more earnest in the acoustic version.

Atreyu is kinda in between everywhere lol. One moment they sound like Funeral For A Friend and the next, they sound like Avenged Sevenfold and before you know it, they end up like Blessthefall. But they're quite good though. Shows that they're versatile.

P.S. Nice avatar by the way zullio. MCR used to be my favourite band. By the way, is Ray or Frank the lead guitarist? I'm still kinda confused to this day.

isn't atreyu metalcore?

how bout having a main screamer and having a guitarist/bassist doing the clean vocals. an example of a good blend of screams and clean vox imo is Alesana. I like dennis' screams and shawn's vocals are nice even though they're abit girlish. and yes like idontreallylikepapayas said, I think most of the bands being mentioned here are not really 'screamo' as in the genre, they're more towards post-hardcore.

^
my opinions. :D

Screamo?

Sorry neuro182 I didn't see your message before zullio's. Haha yeah Cove Reber is good too. But I prefer "Seven Years" that kinda style more though. But anyways who cares? Saosin is a great band no matter what. Ah yes, Philip Sneed. That's him. I watched a video of him performing, not at Vans Warped Tour though. Some other gig. Can't remember what gig it was. It was a long time ago... Thing is, he was great. What band was he in at the time when he was temporary vocalist with Saosin? The funny thing is, I can never really differentiate whose voice is whose. Anthony, Philip and Cove all sound the same to me haha. Only difference is their influence on the band's sound. Anyways I have many of Atreyu's songs. They are great. Just that they can never seem to figure out what genre they wanna do haha.

Haha zullio yeah it's okay. Intelligent messing around is always welcome. Haha. As long as it's related to what we're talking about anyway. Oh so Ray is the lead? I once went to a site where they said Frank was the lead. Then my friends said that Ray was lead. All the videos I watched also show Ray as lead. So I kinda suspected Ray was the lead but black and white is always "more reliable". So I was confused. Thanks for clearing that up though.

To porphyria!, Atreyu, like I said, is just all over the place in terms of genre. Yeah Underoath also has a main screamer vocalist and a second clean vocalist. His name is Spencer Chamberlain. All the clean vocals are done by Aaron Gillespie, the drummer. It's tough having to sing and drum at the same time. But he does it. It's quite amazing when you watch him. Aaron is also in another band called The Almost where he's the front vocalist. Drumming is by another guy. Anyway a lot of post-hardcore bands nowadays employ screaming in their songs now. So the genre is kinda synonymous with the term "screamo" nowadays.
