What kind of screamo songs do you like?

To harizmaninchains,
I totally agree that many black metal bands totally look down upon the current generation of post-hardcore bands. In fact, this is even apparent in my daily life. I work at a CD shop and as my manager is a black metal listener, she seems to scoff at the idea of me listening to bands such as Underoath and Blessthefall, claiming that they are "emo" which is an insult to the scene really as "emo" is just bullshit and those in the scene actually mock at these so-called "emos". Also, she says that such music is made by "white trash" which makes me rather sad though as the two above-mentioned bands are my favourites. However, this just goes to emphasize the point that "screamo" has its own segregations in itself.

Emo is so widely misunderstood, that the bands you probably know of as emo are not really emo genre-wise. Popular perception of emo = Escape the Fate, MCR. Actual Emo = Sunny Day Real Estate

You can't blame her. Her kvlt level goes up every time she labels a band emo.

Darn...
there are a lot of bands who incorporate 'screaming' into their music but I never knew there is a sub-genre called 'screamo'.

That manager who scoffs, think she lives in her own musical shell that probably once belonged to a hermit crab.

I think Emo gets misunderstood cos it's not meant to be understood in the first place. It's like when a person keeps to him/her self, others form a judgemental opinion about them.

Judge& Mental shouldn't mix.

Haha to idontreallylikepapayas yeah I do know real "emo" bands such as Rites Of Spring, The Hated, Still Life etc. Nowadays, the bands like Escape The Fate and similar are merely post-hardcore or metalcore. And what's kvlt may I ask?

To kimura, "screamo" has been a widely-debated topic as to what genres it actually covers. What may be popular however, with bands like Blessthefall called a "screamo" band, may not always be correct, as it is the case with Circle Takes The Square or Saetia which are actually real "screamo" bands. However, I do think that you may have confused the term "emo" with the personality of a person rather than the music genre which we are actually talking about. Nonetheless, just because a person listen to Rites Of Spring doesn't mean that he is emo.

And to LadyInTears, though I consider myself to be somewhat of a metalhead too as I am a deathmetal fan as well, I do not really agree with that statement. I feel that one should not put himself in a higher position just because he listens to a particular genre of music. On the contrary, I think we should all respect one another's choice of music as it is the freedom of choice and each genre has its own uniqueness. In fact, I do enjoy Jazz and Chillout music as well, despite my preferred choice of metal and post-hardcore. Check out the Arjunabeats Chillout series and Dance hits by Armin Van Buuren yeah? They are rather good to listen to actually.

Anyways, the very fact that "emo", "screamo" and metal is still widely argued and debated about, shows that regardless of our love for rock, we will always somehow be divided which I find is rather tragic as good music should just be enjoyed. =)
