What is a lick?

i'm a begginer in guitar play

I was seriously wondering why is it called lick?

Can't it goes like phrase? section? ah.... or kiss? or..

is there a real meaning of how this "lick" is formed?

no la.. just curious to know its origin of the name..

like if you know.. the word "OK" actually came during some war time.. where the soldier would write a big Zero and K on a white paper to tell their higher HQ back there the status.. OK means Zero Killed.. from then.. it slowly changed to what we know as ok=good

so i still believe lick doesnt just form out of air

there is also a reason the word fuck came about.. gotta check my email when i am free.. it doesnt just came out like tt.. there are alot of slang that are formed in a very interesting manner..

the origin of OK :


long long ago, somewhere around the globe, got this dude who English was very bad. he spelled all correct as " oll korrect" ....

I have ther answer. Must pay 50 cents 1 st tho...no lar kidding. If my friend is correct, last time guitar strings were extremely rough and hard to solo on. So, to improve their speed, guitarists often licked their fingers b4 playing the solo to improve lubrication Hence, we have the origin of the word. Hope this helps .

Haha....now there's stuff like GHS FastFret and Dunlop 65 string cleaner that allows u to play fast without licking ur fingers and also much smoother strings. Use those plz.............the saliva smell on the strings wld get unbearable.......and also note the pH of saliva. Haha.

haha thats a chemistry pass for you . yeah fast fret but i hate it . it makes my fingers itch after that and smells funny too
